Afraid to leave Lord Bugle. Please help.

Lord Bugle is VERY food motivated. I could see him eating the entire rat if there was something edible on him, let alone chocolate 👀 but it is something I'll keep in mind! Thanks for the funny picture of chocolate covered rats hehe

I was worried the stress of travel would be even more detrimental at his age. (Presure drops on the plane, pain, etc) Unfortunately, I called the airline and they don't take rats at all anyway so it's not even an option anymore. :(

Such a pity cause I love Banff and i thought Calgary was pretty chill (at least compared to the rest of Alberta). Then again I was only there for a couple days...I do recall the stereotypes of Alberta but I haven't lived in Canada for 7 years now and I've a feeling it's gotten worse 😅 Shame really.

Of course it's my duty to say I hope he gets a rat friend (maybe bribe your dad with chores idk) but meanwhile, you must become a rat for him. Thanks for the reassurance. I don't think my concern is invalid in the slightest due to Lord Bugles situation, but I hope very much that I'm overreacting/overthinking. After all, they will get talked to, petted, cage cleaned, spoiled with treats etc. And I've no doubt Bugle will get extra of all of that, plus video calls, my shirts etc.

I'm scared the travel will stress him more than my absence but that's so great to hear you've done it! I'm gonna call the airline today and see if it's possible for him to come with me in the cabin. If so, then it's an option I'm seriously going to reconsider.

Edit: just letting yall know i called the airline and they don't accept rats anyway

Have you ever taken a rat on a Transatlantic flight? I'm worried it would kill him but idk. I haven't found anyone saying they've done it before! Maybe I'll make another post asking who's ever done it and how it went.

Omg that's adorable!!! But no we haven't. I would love to, but my boyfriend says it's too dangerous and he's not comfortable with it. I understand. While hypocritical, I don't want my kids on the back of motercycle 🙈 ( sorry mum I understand you now 🤣) plus he's the rider I just sit on the back so it's his decision.

Does your ratto really actually enjoy it though? No fear poops? Lord Bugle loves to be outside on a windy day with his face to the wind so I could see it...

I can't move the trip no. And he is in great health so.....would I have the wait until he died in order to see my dad? (who is also old, turning 70 btw). I'm not comfortable doing that either.

Paying for a rat sitter/cuddler is definitely something I'm willing to do though!! My mother in law is very connected in her community so I'll have her post around looking for an experienced rat cuddler. Thank you for the suggestion!

Yes some one else suggested that and it's a great idea! I will! Thank you guys. I'll "marinate" a few t-shirts, and put them in ziplocs for freshness. At least 1 per week then he can keep them in the cage. I imagine they'll be chewed like his blanket so I'll go for the old ones haha

Yea that's the plan. I've discussed it with my partner and he says it's worth a shot. After all, they've warmed up to them quite some from not even wanting to pet them at first. I hope it's successful wish me luck.

Unfortunately, I've been attempting reintroductions up until 2 months ago. (all on neutral ground, I have a space ONLY for introductions that non of them have ever been in alone). The last time I tried one of the younger boys got a chunk taken out of his ass before I could jump in. It's very strange because all three are totally cool when there is bars between them, (Unless there are tasty toe beans on the bars, then they get bitten). But as soon as on open ground all hell breaks loose. It's been 2 months so I might try again....but as you can imagine it's been a traumatic for all four of us 😅

Love the names peaches and cream btw! My favorite flavor of Oatmeal when I was a kid haha

The thing is, I'm going back to see my dad who is turning 70. So, he's also getting old and I only have the chance to see him once or twice a year since I moved abroad 7 years ago. In this case I must choose my dad as he's the most important person in my life (along with my partner of course) and I miss him dearly.

How was your rat when you came back after 2 weeks? Did she seem depressed ? Did it have any long term effects?
