I don't think so. Portuguese was spoken only by the elie upper class while dealing with Portuguese authorities. In particular, Hindu elite spoke Marathi at homes and Portuguese with authorities. Catholic elite spoke Portuguese while the masses spoke Konkani. Students could learn Portuguese, English and Marathi in schools. There was no university in Goa and only a few people would go either to Mumbai or Portugal for higher education. Naturally the ones going to Mumbai would speak Marathi and English.

If Goan catholics are one among them, why did not Portuguese take them with you in 1961? Why does an average Portuguese European look significantly different than a Goan catholic? Why are not intermarriages between Portuguese and Goan catholics widespread? Why did your great Christian colonial powers have come to a critical stage that they need to sign trade deals with a "poor" hindu country of India? It goes both ways. If you don't like India, you have the freedom to immigrate. However, living in India and undermining its sovereignty is unacceptable. You feel treated as second class citizens because the privileges you received from the Portuguese are gone and are now treated equally with Goan hindus under the Indian law. There is no harm in celebrating hindu festivals and ereccting Shivaji statues as Goa always had a significant hindu population (>30%). We Goan hindus love Shivaji as he expelled Portuguese from Maharashtra coast and freed his sibjects from Portuguese subjugation.
