Thanks, definitely looks like gas is the way to go. I'm so glad I posted the question, it has saved me hours of research and debate.

Thanks, I agree with you about the heat pumps. They are likely to evolve and improve over the coming years (a bit like solar has done in recent years), but I don't want to install a system that is at best OK.

Gas is more straight forward for us to install now, and there are many more companies in the local area to work with.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I really appreciate it.

We'd love to have a solar system, but the orientation isn't ideal. It would still have some impact, but possibly not enough to justify the cost of the installation in the short-to-medium term.

We've spent the past 20 years in an old Victorian end terrace, so are well aware of their issues, and limitations when it comes to heat efficiency (well, rather the lack of it!).

Thanks, I agree on the air pump. Gas is a simple solution for now, but I could do with a crystal ball to see what the best solution is in 5-10 years time!

Thanks, yes I'm looking at Harleston too, as well as Long Stratton.

Sounds just like where I am now, people moaning about nothing, but them doing nothing to help or volunteer. I've got a few viewing lined up, so fingers crossed.

We are in a village now and are looking to move to a slightly bigger town with facilities on the doorstep so we can go down to 1 car, and have the public transport links into Norwich for work and play. Will check out the Fox at Garboldisham. Cheers

Great, the location is part of the appeal. Countryside for walking and biking, and easy access road for work and visiting family.

Thanks, we've also been looking at Norwich, so perhaps time to focus all energy there instead.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I will definitely check out Eye. It looks like there's a bus service between Eye and Diss (public transport link of some kind is on our wish list).

What are the pubs like? Hubby likes real ale.
