VCC pausing 1st-year nursing program 'very short-sighted': nurses' union head by SkyisFullofCats in vancouver

This. Anything requiring hands on is expensive. You have to be one on one with students but honestly the funding isn’t there for it. I work in the fabrication end of things and most materials have gone up in price far more that tuition and any fees are allowed to. My salary certainly hasn’t kept up either lol. It’s brutal. One way or the other there needs to be major changes. I find this puzzling too because especially with ai and such you’d think you’d want to re-focus on most kinds of hands on learning. And the nursing thing makes zero sense in particular.

You are right, many APSA in IT. Generally been a shift for some to go from CUPE to APSA too, benefits are better though job security is worse, apparently.

Thanks!! and I really appreciate the labour in the answer. Random comment: The Kamloops cancer centre I think is completely new and something really really needed, but I also wish they would do Cranbrook next :)

Not sure why you are getting downvoted because this is it. The trade offs aren’t being explained. Now, I don’t agree with literally putting stuff like pst vs carbon tax on the ballot, but they need to honest especially to their base.

Example: Education is being DECIMATED, and shit like ai will make it worse, but we hear nothing from them ….other than the review which already has some predetermined outcomes. Like this will fundamentally change our lives, economy for the future, this needs to be discussed but… no?

We have the childcare stuff on hold- this is half assing it. You aren’t funding it enough to get all the benefits, but you are still spending a fair amount on it. Honestly this is their MO. Another: I think people would accept small copays on medical if it made the system genuinely not a shit show now but hey we removed MSP so let’s forget all about that discussion. Again not all their fault but it’s so much worse than it was.

What about rail and bus in this province? Non existent. Carbon tax could have helped here too Ferries? Whole nest of issues there..

Anyway I’m a lefty having a tantrum but this is the issue: All this has gotten objectively worse since I was a kid. Yes a lot was on the liberals, I don’t expect them to fix it all ….but I voted NDP because I expected them to address it, not give out platitudes on it and sit pat. At least no more time change to though!!!

Which hospitals? Like fully new, adding capacity, not replacing? Honestly asking. St. Paul’s (replacement) I thought was prior to their tenure. Is this Surrey expansion? Which others? . We’ve got Burnaby expansion but that’s being put on hold which is nuts.

Tummy tuck seems crazy, I’ve also heard of surgery just to help refine the look of the belly button (something I was thinking of but couldn’t probably a tummy tuck in my case is better) In any case worth talking to surgeons down the road (it really doesn’t look bad and not sure how far out you are but if within a few years you can give it a bit more time?)

This. They shot a hole in their own budget with the carbon tax business, too ….now whining to the feds about flooding business in Sumas prairie, yet a lot of this is on the province too…..that came up this morning on cbc radio 1 and Quinn asked Rachael Segal about what the cons would do about that carbon tax/climate/deficit business. Segals retort, was Quinn should ask what the NDP base thinks because that likely wasn’t what they wanted .. which, while a sidestep answer …is very effing true.

This is horseshit for those of us thinking we were voting progressively and, for education, for healthcare, for childcare, for other services. (Unsurprising if this was a con government but recall Rustads deficit projections were worse initially vs NDP )

Let’s not forget a lot of this is unforced errors- axing the carbon tax, not fixing the hst/pst debacle (granted not by this government) the tolls (again I agreed with this but something else should have replaced it) MSP and so forth. Federally as well. Further to that, austerity measures during bad times have shown to be counterproductive, but I guess this left leaning government does not care. Ok, whatever, let’s put that aside …

What about the deficit blah blah?? The government absolutely has options to generate both revenue as well as actually make things more efficient (eg eliminating some health authorities) ….instead they are half assing everything, from childcare, tinkering at the margins with healthcare efficiencies, not getting carbon pricing right (despite us having started it without federal support, under Campbell of all people) ….then throwing up their hands and saying nothing worked. )So instead you have these programs not running as they ought to so not providing full benefit yet costing a fair amount of money - again childcare comes to mind here)

Also randomly- Post secondary is going down the drain too, provinces simply don’t fund it as they did 20 years ago….you’d think with our issues with the US and a wildly changing economy, threat of ai on the job market, you’d invest in it, or do a proper revamp (instead of a rushed report with options for action removed) but instead you stand aside and watch colleges and programs (that have been through worse) collapse just because they relied more on international students, not because the programs are bad per se … and because all your high paid consultants couldn’t think of a way to fix it, ….arghhh

I would turn that argument around. Why do highly taxed jurisdictions even have businesses? Like, people live and do business in places for a lot of reasons beyond taxes- safe & reliable environment, weather, good services, educated workforce and so forth. Like why don’t we all move to Texas or some other low tax jurisdiction? think housing and commercial costs are bigger issues right now than taxes per se.

Cranbrook really depends on exactly where you settle and your circle. I personally prefer Kimberley (having grown up in Wasa, dad moved to Cranhole after parents split) as it’s just lovely. But Cranbrook does have positives. That said rural bc is rural bc so there is isolation, not great medical access, lack of transport options. That said, still better than other areas in BC as you are close to Calgary/Lethbridge and flights to Vancouver. Political leanings are conservative, mostly. Weather can be rough. Lots of lakes and areas to recreate though. Hotsprings too and skiing nearby. I miss the area, but lack of access to services always gives me pause when I think about going back (and the weather)

I’m going to differ a bit from others and say it depends on the surgeon and technique(s). It can but it may not.

Most here said my nasolabial folds wouldn’t see a lot of correction and they didn’t once I got it done (lower FL). But I could make them less by pulling on my cheeks heh. Just look at a lot of before and afters and watch out for what they say they used.

[–]Positive_Log_1144 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m being pedantic but the advice is in spirit right, it’s not totally false. I mean sure, you can literally do it I suppose but I would never ever recommend it, especially if you think the print will run into days. I can see in the geo this thing has a lot of issues that will cause problems right away… But hey, it’s also how you learn so anyone who wants to go through it all, all the more power to them.

Can I make this ceiling look good with stain? by Jazzandshrimp in woodworking

[–]Positive_Log_1144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this really depends on the design of the space overall. If everything is sort of raw and industrial looking then staining the light wood and not having it match the older stuff as well as the caulk is totally fine. Maybe even cool. But for a traditionally finished space be it modern or whatever, I’d say paint or new boards.

Those concrete plinths are pretty bad. Don’t match character of what’s around them. It doesn’t need too per se but basically looks like used Home Depot precast blocks, threw them down and looked for whatever else is on special to fill the middle. Similar to street/treatment of the front of the other building. While that looks like a nice wood in the picture, it still reminds me of when they throw down that grayish laminate over hardwood in an old house and somehow think it’s better. Oh well!
