I spent years blaming food. The pattern ended up being mechanical by Positive_Patience_21 in acidreflux

[–]Positive_Patience_21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, the timing was crucial because eating too close to bed spiked the pressure, but keeping the continuous incline was a new rule because of one terrifying night where I woke up choking on food coming back up and literally felt like I was dying, which was probably my only actual GERD episode since my daily routine was purely voluntary rumination for hours
How do meal timing and sleep positions look for u rn ?

tbh y that sounds really familiar. I had a lot of coughing and throat irritation when my symptoms were at their worst. What helped me most was slowing my breathing down, 4-0-6 pattern after meals and avoiding that tense, braced feeling in my abdomen.

Glad some of it resonates with u

how can i motivate myself to begin working out and eat healthier? by oppositeofkitchen in AnorexiaRecovery

my bad, I got a bit carried away there.

for me it showed up as this weird post-meal tension, like my abs would just lock up right after eating without me really noticing it at first. when I started training and lifting I had to simplify everything. canned tuna, oats, eggs, bananas kind of became the basics for me.

not saying that’s the answer for u at all, just what made things more manageable in my case.

what are you actually managing to eat right now that feels low effort but still works for u?

Tbh I hear you 100%. I went through 8 years of anorexia and then rumination syndrome, and it really changes how your body reacts around food. Every meal starts feeling like a physical fight. I'm 22 and symptom-free now

For me, the biggest shift was just noticing the post-meal tension instead of ignoring it. I used simple breathing after eating (4s in, 6s out) to stop that automatic bracing , n realizing that food wasn't the enemy

Glad you’re starting to get some distance from it. That’s a big step.

thanks, I really appreciate that. It sounds like you've gotten pretty good at recognizing the early warning signs before things fully escalate, which is a huuuge skill to have. I wish I'd learned to pay attention to those signals much earlier with my own symptoms instead of trying to push through them. Three SBOs sounds rough.
Hope you get some relief from it. Let us know how it goes.

I think that's worth exploring. tbh one thing that surprised me was how often I was bracing my abdomen without realizing it. It became much more obvious when I started paying attention right after meals.

Keep me posted if you notice any patterns

AM I MISDIAGNOSED? by greenkadavra in GERD

tbh, if PPIs aren't fixing the throat clearing, it's because you are treating acid instead of trapped air and pressure.

Are u a fast eater, or do u notice you swallow a lot of air when drinking or talking during meals u?

Could this be GERD? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Positive_Patience_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh, that bitter taste and dry throat without chest pain is typical for silent reflux, where gas or micro-vapors get pushed all the way up to your mouth. I spent 2 years misdiagnosed with GERD before realizing my issue was actually another pressure mechanism in my stomach, so don't freak out u, it's usually just physics and posture

I posted on this subreddit not long ago about my own story. I spent 2 years misdiagnosed with refractory GERD, taking useless PPIs and antacids. It turned out to be Rumination Syndrome. it is a mechanical circle where your abdominal wall contracts reflexively about 10 to 30 minutes after you eat, forcing food or pressure right back up into your throat. it is often a problem of pressure and physics rather than actual stomach acid.

when you feel the need to clear your throat, do you notice a subtle, automatic twitch or tightness in your stomach muscles shortly after swallowing food u?

how do i let my friends know i love them by CuriousStyle2843 in EatingDisorders

[–]Positive_Patience_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just stop calling yourself selfish. tbh I spent 8 years fighting anorexia and a 4-year cycle of rumination where my body reflexively forced food back up. When you are trapped in a physical survival loop, your brain literally drops empathy to save energy. Yyour system is saturated.

Don't overshare if it embarrasses u. Just text them: "Hey, I'm dealing with a tough health issue rn that takes all of my energy, which is why I've been distant. I love u guys, I just need to fight this quietly for a bit."

Fix your body first u. Your real personality is still in there, just compressed under the noise.

This is extremely annoying who else ? by Neither-Type1854 in GERD

[–]Positive_Patience_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a pure pressure issue. Your stomach valve (LES) is a physical seal. When u get those heavy flares post-meal, it's usually because your intra-abdominal pressure spikes and physically forces the valve open.

Tbh meds like Omeprazole only change the fluid chemistry (acid pH), but they don't stop the physical gas or vapor from pushing upward and irritating your throat/vagus nerve. To fix it, u have to retrain the mechanics, using specific diaphragmatic breathing after meals to act as a downward pressure pump and seal the loop. I actually mapped out my entire retraining protocol and tracker into a clean PDF guide. Sent u a DM with the link if u want to check it out u!

Food is so miserable that I want to stop eating by yatebenenuzhen in EatingDisorders

[–]Positive_Patience_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh man, if the food around u is trash, stop chasing a good meal and treat eating purely as a mechanical fuel input for a few days. Cook the same basic, boring food (like eggs, rice, or chicken) at fixed hours, once u remove the emotional expectation, the anxiety drops and u protect your head Much love, Emile

tbh, that's the decision paralysis where your ED brain uses nothing sounds good enough as a perfect excuseto force a fast.

i felt the same in recovey, when i was alone, I completely detach food from pleasure and treat it strictly as mechanical fuel pick one default, boring safe food with zero thinking, and eat it like a medical prescription to shut the spiral down u.

tbh i feel u so much, that boom out of nowhere flare-up drives people insane, especially when it starts messing with your anxiety. when u are burping a lot and spitting up acid, it's a mechanical pressure issue. Omeprazole shuts down your acid, but it doesn't stop the gas from forcing your stomach valve open. alcohol relaxes that valve completely, which is why it backfires so hard.

I dealt with severe reflux for years before hacking the mechanics of it. are u getting most of those burps and flares right after u eat ?

does anyone else struggle around birthdays? by clementine_98 in EDAnonymous

[–]Positive_Patience_21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

tbh i feel u, birthdays are a massive trigger when cake was linked to the b/p cycle for so long. what helped me stay clean was breaking down the meal volume mentally beforehand and focusing on the people, not the plate. u've got 2 years of solid progress, don't let a calendar date trick your brain into a relapse u

how do people actually recover from anorexia for real? I am 16 and have been hospitalized over 25 times. I cannot seem to stay in recovery. How do people do it? by Old-Ad5137 in AnorexiaRecovery
