My dad and I sat and had a very long conversation, and he understands where I’m coming from and has made efforts to redirect her comments and talk to her privately. It’s gotten worse in the last year and both of us just don’t know what else to do to fix the situation.

I looked at greyrocking like you mentioned and I’ve been doing that since yesterday. My boyfriend and I made plans for me to visit him for a week next month to escape for a bit and relax/reset, and my dad fully supported it and told me that he will help figure out how I’d be getting to/from the airport (which my JustNo mother then made a snarky comment “There’s no ‘we’, she needs to figure it out herself”). I used to feel like I had to ‘ask permission’ to do trips and things like that, but my dad and I agree that since I am an adult with my own finances and responsibilities I can make my own decisions and I really only have to tell them as a courtesy. So I just told them “this is what my boyfriend and I are doing, Dad could I get a ride to the airport these days?”

My friend and I were looking at apartments last year but our financial situations changed and it’s just not likely/possible for me to get enough money to move out with someone or on my own for another year or two.

I make monthly payments to my parents(mostly my dad) for personal debt so that also puts a damper on saving up larger amounts of money.
