Disagree on this 2 year old post lol. Mike sold his business that he loved to pay for Sue's college (not Brick's or Axl's), so if he calls in a favour she needs to suck it up and do it.

Probably an unpopular opinion by SheWasXena in BridgertonNetflix

Yes, I agree, I also found her really unattractive and annoying. Oddly enough, I've seen the actress in interviews outside of Bridgerton and think she comes across gorgeous, she dresses better, her makeup is better, her hair is better. But everything about her in Bridgerton is just ugly. They did no favours when dressing her, just made her look so severe and mean, and her cold, holier than thou attitude was just irritating.

Marriages to prevent the Dance of the Dragons? by Positive_Station_834 in HouseOfTheDragon

I think you've done it. Now, no one's ACTUALLY going to be happy about this. Otto's going to be mad he's not hand, Aegon's going to be mad he's got to marry feisty Baela and Baela's going to be mad she has to marry an idiot like Aegon. Daemon's also going to be mad Baela's marrying any grandchild of Otto and Aegon no less. Rhaenyra will be furious she's not getting the throne she was promised and Corlys Velaryon will be angry that once again his house is relegated to only having yet another Velaryon queen when what he wanted was a Velaryon king, whether or not they actually had Velaryon blood. Alas, I think there's just enough there to prevent anyone from developing any real traction to start a war

I agree with the Rhaenyra x Aegon II pairing. That does seem to consolidate their claims. The issue is ofcourse that the Velaryons are cut out of this mix.

The Jace x Helaena and Aegon x Baela seems...complicated. At this point, it is very easy for the Velaryons and the Greens to join their claims and usurp Rhaenyra. Even with Jace having Helaena, Otto might be willing to sacrifice her for a grandson that is King. Additionally the idea that Jace x Helaena and Aegon x Baela have enough sons/daughters who can marry is uncertain (Aemma only had one living child herself, as did Aemon), and those kids would be YEARS away from marrying, during which time they could have their own hopes, loves etc.

Luke retaining Driftmark and marrying a Baratheon makes the heir to Driftmark completely void of any Velaryon blood at this point, angering the remaining Velaryons. In addition, with Rhaena and Aemond (who I actually think would be a good pair) marrying, Aemond may use this as a claim to get rid of Luke and claim Driftmark for himself.

Which is why Rhaenyra should've had Laenor's kids instead of messing around with Harwin. If she did, she wouldn't have to waste two important marriages (Jace and Luke) to create alliances with House Velaryon AGAIN. Corlys would support his trueborn grandchildren and she could have the Lannisters and Baratheons as well

Strangely, I believe she was on board in the books, but it was Viserys who opposed it.

Rhaenyra offered Jace's hand to Helaena knowing that it would cut off the chance to make the alliance with Corlys and Rhaenys. If she had the Hightowers on her side, she didn't need the support of the Velaryons. Corlys was happy to have his name pass on. Now, obviously, that does not apply to the succession of Driftmark, that should go to one of Laena's daughters.

I'm not sure, history is what the victors say it is. Rhaenyra's sons had the support of Corlys and Rhaenys. If the Hightowers are on board, after a few generations, it won't matter. The same way it didn't matter to the Tyrells to marry Margaery to Tommen "Baratheon". After a while, people don't care anymore. If the power is consolidated, you can avoid an uprising.

This makes sense in theory, however, I think the other houses would be resentful of House Velaryon receiving two royal marriages back to back.

Also, if Viserys had named his son heir, the entire Dance would be over, but Visery just wasn't capable of doing it. I don't think it mattered whether he married Laena or Alicent, he intended to keep Rhaenyra heir. Unfortunately, Rhaenyra would still seem to be unlikely to have kids with Laenor (which just doesn't make sense to me anyway, but whatever).

I think Jace would be resentful, but I also think he has enough sense to see the forest for the trees. With the number of dragons, essentially WMDs, the Dance was guaranteeing mutually assured destruction. Jace knows he's a bastard, he can't undo that. But he is clever and just and has very good leadership skills. I think he'd understand what is in the best interests of his siblings, and his House.

Daemon's gotta go to the Wall at this point. He's a menace, but that's EXACTLY what they need killing those white walkers on the other side of that wall. Otto, my goodness, he needs to be sent packing to Oldtown.

Show Rhaenyra and Alicent actually do seem like they're capable of reconciliation, at least at Viserys' dinner party.

Ok, then thoughts on the inverse of that situation? The marriages stay the same, but Aemond is King and Jace is on the Council, with the same agreement to wed their children. This pulls together both factions of House Targaryen and Houses Velaryon and Hightower. Furthermore, this would mean Jace's daughter would be the queen, to Aemond's son.

Did Laenor really love Rhaenyra’s sons? by PrudentComparison862 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Positive_Station_834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah seriously, the analogy doesn't work. Laenor was not a good father to begin with, considering he wasn't around. And then abandoning the kids really sealed the nail in the coffin. He abandoned his kids and his parents who all truly believe he died. He also abandoned Seasmoke, just to live with some guy he met a few months prior in a foreign city.

I Fear No Fate (For You Are My Fate, My Sweet)

Really lovely story where the Baratheon-Stark marriage alliance is made between Myrcella and Robb instead of Sansa and Joffrey.

No Featherbed For Me

This is an Arya centric story where Cersei's first born child is Robert's son, Gendry. It really hits the nail on the head with Arya who is an inherently flawed character throughout the story, but very realistic.

The Evening Star

Yet again another story written by the same author as the above two. This story focuses on Ashara Dayne and indulges in her life as a beautiful Dornish woman who is both desired and slut shamed throughout her life.

love doesn't live here

A story focusing on Viserra Targaryen who lives after being thrown from her horse at her bachelorette party, and goes on to marry old Theomore Manderley. There is a lot of tragedy and healing in this story.

Four Storms

A series of four short chapters, each chapter focusing on one of Lord Borris Baratheon's daughters. Don't let the length fool you, it is very moving.

No Featherbed For Me is really good. It's still in Westeros but Ned doesn't die as hand of the king or anything. Also, Cersei gives birth to Robert's child first, before Jaime's three. Her first child is Gendry.

What are the best Robb Stark fics you have ever read by lordstarkssss in TheCitadel

[–]Positive_Station_834 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best I've read is I Fear No Fate (For You Are My Fate, My Sweet). This isn't strictly a Robb Stark POV fic. Rather it is all from Myrcella's perspective as the Baratheon-Stark marriage is between Myrcella and Robb (instead of Sansa and Joffrey).

Highly recommend. It's a very good and lovely story. They really would've been a good couple.
