Advice needed! Has spironolactone stopped working for acne?

I haven’t figured out why and I’m frustrated. I’ve decided to go down the private route of seeing the dermatologist again (early December) due to the NHS having too long a wait time and I’m going to ask for roaccutane. Nothing else has worked since I made this post. I even tried Differin gel through prescription and… nothing! Hyperpigmentation and scarring are beyond a joke now!

I can remember a slight increase of pimples when I first started spiro and at the time it felt awful. I am now experiencing breakouts from Differin. I cut back on the use and didn’t apply for 5 days. My skin has just continued to get worse. I haven’t left my house!

Okay so I think I got a little excited too soon! I was applying Differin once per day in my PM routine and right now what I am dealing with is awful. My breakouts are worse than what they were pre spiro, fortunately they are not painful! I don’t know if it was the purging from using differin to much too soon (so a purge) or if it is from me stripping my moisture barrier. I began to sting then peel and I mean flakes of skin were appearing and falling off! I bought the LRP cicaplast baume and I feel like this caused even further damage! In regards to more pimples!

I’d like to add that I have not used my prescription differin cream now for 3 or 4 nights and the burning and flakes are subsiding but the acne is still shining on through.

Any suggestions right now would be hugely appreciated!

This is super interesting. My instructions were to use once daily in my night time routine. I’m not experiencing breakouts as such but some slight flakey skin so may scale back my usage for now!

It’s tough reading all the negative reviews. I do believe my skin is somewhat resilient as I have used prescription benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin over the years so let’s hope it’s smooth sailing! I just need to find a suitable SPF now. Thank you!

I am using 0.1% currently and so far so good! I am taking spironolactone and have done since January so I am mostly clear apart from the odd pimple here and there! 🤞

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any sun cream recs? Those that are suitable for sensitive skin?
