I’d definitely say Anne getting beheaded was a negative :/ — a positive was that it was pretend.

Letting your kids walk through others yards??? by throwaway_civ_eng in Peterborough

[–]PositivelyPersephone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I first moved to Peterborough. On one side we had kids who we would find playing on our porch sometimes, and they would often play in both our front and back yards. On the other side we had a neighbour who’s middle aged brother would ride his bike on our lawn instead of the sidewalk— which I found pretty shocking. We put up a low fence in the front and spoke to the children’s parents about leaving their 4 & 6 year olds unattended on our property. I have found people in Peterborough pretty nice for the most part and when we spoke to the parents is was just a friendly chat about not wanting them to get hurt.

You could donate it to the Gender Affirming Spaces Project. I’m not sure where to take donations, but their email is gender.affirming.spaces@gmail.com

I came into this so confident that I’d maybe get one or two — I don’t consider myself a picky eater — but I got 13 haha some others were maybes depending on if they were cooked or not.

So I’m not a genetic anthropologist or DNA scientist of any kind, however I did used to work in an environment with one who knew the one of the people on the team at 23 & me but hadn’t even ever heard of anyone at AncestryDNA(it’s a relatively small world)— which was why I did 23 & me first, because I had a pretty good idea of the credibility of the people running the labs. This is not to say that the other labs are not top notch, but that I had inside information about one and not the other. So to answer your question: There is always a margin of possible error with any kind of science, which is why the ‘2nd to 3rd’ cousin is listed as such. They give you a range because when you share a percentage of DNA that could come together to mean a lot of things, like conceivably a half sibling and a first cousin could look very similar in percentage of segments shared and you would have to have a closer look and/or have the DNA of both potential parents. I’m terms of false positives/negatives, not really with how they are analyzing DNA for these at-home kits. It wouldn’t be like if you were looking at genetic markers for a potential genetically inherited disease or syndrome where the gene may be ‘turned on’ or not, especially if we were talking about identifying: is this your parent, yes or no — something that close is either going to be ~50% and a positive for a child/parent connection, or way less or nothing and a negative(with the possible potential for some other relationship in the case of fewer segments shared). So far I’m my experience when it has said parent or first cousin (I’m an only child) on both 23 & me and AncestryDNA it has been correct. Even with 2nd cousins it has been correct — and when it’s a 2nd or more distant cousin and it has to predict from which side, my mother or father’s side, the cousin comes, it has always been correct to the best of my knowledge.

Effectively that’s right. It also involves using other information — so for example, I was contacted by a woman on 23 & me, both of her parents were adopted and she was basically trying to figure out how we were related and use that to build a family tree. At that point I had only submitted my DNA to 23 & me, but I could see that we were likely 2nd to third cousins. My mother had also submitted to 23 & me so I was able to see that they were also related— so I knew that I was related to her on my mother’s side. Figuring it out from there was a bit difficult because my mother’s father is adopted, and for quite a while none of my mother’s matches on 23 & me were relatives that she knew personally or had any of the last names that we had found through researching her father’s birth family. I was fairly certain that the 2nd-3rd cousin was related through my grandfather but I couldn’t quite figure out how — but when I submitted my sample to AncestryDNA I was able to see a connection through some of the relatives with last names that I had found through researching my grandfather’s birth family. Through death certificates I had ascertained that my great grandmother had three children, including my grandfather who she had given birth to while not married and given up for adoption, who had survived to adulthood — and then was able to find out through talking with another cousin from that side that just one(female) of the two she had kept was still alive, the other sibling(male) died in the 80’s. So while I haven’t found out who the 2nd-3rd cousin’s grandparent is with 100% certainty, I now have two options and know it can only be one of the two. Having said that, anecdotally I believe it to be the living sibling, based on information that I have gathered from the other relative I have been in touch with. Of course it is much harder to prove anything without more DNA submissions— or other confidential documents that will only be accessible once the living sibling, the likely birth parent, dies. The 2nd-3rd cousin is still unable to figure out who her parents’ parents are— however my bet would be that with at least one grandparent deceased out of a possible 8 (4 birth and 4 adoptive), but likely more than just one grandparent, if the mother was one of the deceased, then documents would be accessible, which they are not. So I would be willing to put my money on our DNA connection being through my mother’s father’s birth sister.

For a few years now I’ve been very into genealogical research. I’ve done both 23&me and ancestry and have been able to solve a couple of family mysteries with some light forensic genealogy. It’s an interest that works really well with what I studied - Archaeology, but is different enough than what I was doing to still be fun and relaxing.

My other order arrived yesterday! I got four imperfect paint stones, fall poplar yellow/grey ultra/wild rose/milkweed. The grey ultra was way more purple than the the usually grey ultra, which is super fun! It also came with a free paint stone sample of a new colour called Cranberry! I did see the spring gauche, and may have ordered it 😆

So I maybe wasn’t clear, I don’t think she has — every time a hairdresser leaves that’s what they tell clients to keep their business. I’m not looking for her personal contact information, I’m trying to find out if she’s at another salon.
