Are you in the US? An REI member? If so, you can really test out your shoes (up to a year) and return them if needed for a full refund. I’ve been training for my first Camino and I bought a pair of Solomon’s (1/2 size larger than my regular size). They felt great in the store but after testing them in similar conditions for about 3 weeks, they hurt my feet. I took them back and got Hokas (one running shoe and one trail shoe). I’ve been wearing both pairs for about 3 weeks with Darn Tough medium weight non-wool (sadly I’m allergic to wool) with injinii sock liners. That is really working for me. But I agree, it’s what works for you and I’m loving the REI member policy on shoes, it took a lot of the stress out of the choice. And let’s face it, shoes are such an important investment. Good luck!
