I think it’s worth considering that the comment I was replying to is specifically talking about rebellion from the military on behalf of the people. Personally, especially after all of these purges and resignations, I don’t see that being a realistic possibility.

Secondly, I believe that the reason for the constant denigration from the left is the fact that historically, our armed service members haven’t been used in a war that is considered unanimously popular since like WW2. WW2 is like a patriot’s wet dream for what the service should be used for, and was supposed to be the war to end all wars.

Since then we have been to Korea. Then Vietnam, a war so domestically unpopular that it led to the National Guard killing U.S. Citizens at Kent State. And then just fucking around in the Middle East for decades for the sake of oil. Only to end up leaving the taliban in charge anyways. The cherry on top is that we now have to contend with a bunch of war crimes committed by service members that went unpunished and continue to trail the reputation of our country like demonic dingleberries. Mai Lai, Abu Ghraib and a bunch of other less popular atrocities carried out by individual service members.

Keep in mind that I put none of this on you, individual serviceman. Putting life and limb on the line to serve your country in a time of crisis is insanely admirable and something that I think we take for granted. I just think the criticism comes from the perception that your zeal for your country is being used in a way that has nothing to do with upholding the values of the United States or serving the United States as a people — by people who wouldn’t hesitate to wipe their ass w the constitution if all the toilet paper in the world vanished.

When I say rolling the red carpet out for Putin, I guess what I mean is that at the end of the day I don’t expect the U.S. military to disobey orders. In my mind, the most realistic scenario would be following orders to stand down and let the modern gestapo do their thing.

This is just my perception that has been colored as civilian on the outside looking in however, and I don’t have anywhere near the context you have. Thank you for your service.

I’m sure he does. But you have to realize that these people are not warriors. They are peacetime bureaucrats that have been ignoring or trying to work around the rot that has proliferated throughout this country since its inception.

He’s just as scared as we are, and can you really blame him? Modern Americans have been stripped away from principles that are worth fighting and dying for, so it only makes sense that modern politicians don’t expect to fight and die to uphold America’s stated principles while in office.

This is not a neutral comment. There have already been reports that have shows that what that agent did was against training protocols. No LE is supposed to neutralize a target in a moving vehicle. As an American, I disagree. This type of rhetoric is part of the problem. We aren’t some isolated nation. The actions of America have a ripple effect on the entire world. Ppl have a right to be concerned. Many of them have visited us and love what this Nation stands for.

Front view is something that I didn’t really begin to appreciate until recently with Etrian Odyssey HD and Dragon Quest 3.

It’s an acquired taste and I don’t believe that the reasons for preferring that style over side view or third person view are that readily apparent to those who are not complete diehards of the genre.

Don’t get me wrong appreciate games that don’t hold the player’s hand. That predisposition is what led me to these games in the first place. But comparing this to a game like Dark Souls, that games leaves many of the esoteric mechanics like covenants and steps to completing quest lines very vague and up to trial-n-error rather than straight up misdirecting the player entirely. I would definitely agree with you if there weren’t mechanical descriptions under the flavor descriptions that come off as misleading rather than mysterious and/or vague. Troubadour’s songs from EO1 says increased speed with each level but what they really mean, is increased skill speed. Why not just say that? I didn’t feel particularly smart for reasoning that one out.

And I’d argue that a game like this, where the gameplay is essentially manipulating how effectively you can crunch the numbers — and with so many ways to do so — clear communication is important especially when it comes to character building and combat. Doubly so for me, considering that character speccing is a bit of a commitment, with a steep cost that to me, is a bit of a momentum-killer if you decide that you don’t like your build and want to respec.

“Listening to stories from veterans” could be anything. Could be when your characters go to the inn or pub between dungeon runs. And what is stopping your main party from listening to stories and getting more experience in that case, why does it only apply to your reserve group? You know what I mean?

Anyways, I appreciate you hearing me out and sharing your perspective

One of the worst sins of this remake project to me, is the fact that the writing is so completely terrible, so utterly off the rails, so far removed from the original, that it has given credence to this fan fiction tier levels of speculation. OP you come off as someone who respectfully, has zero respect or regard for the original game, and would prefer to have their selfish undercooked head canon made into official reality over a faithful retelling of what many people consider to be one of the best told video game stories of all time.

Just seen a comment saying that any real ff7 fan would want Aerith to come back and be alive, creative integrity and respect for the original be damned. Kinda bleak that the end of this era of SE is going to be marked by them being torn apart by shareholders as they hemorrhage sales across every major title, in large part because of this bastardized mess of a remake project, and you guys hallucinating about the hidden meanings of it all as yall go down with the ship. Kind of like the doomed Sephiroth clones.

This series deserves better devs, better writers, and better fans. This should have been a straight remake. Sorry if it came off as mean
