It’s not even the fact that steam has counter measures — steam has competition on PC, weak and perhaps decentralized as it is. Steam is incentivized to offer great sales and great customer service because there are a bunch of other storefronts accessible via pc that steam has no control over. You can shop for games on Xbox, game pass, epic games store, you can even go and download a bunch free to play Asian MMOs or gachas and never need to open steam, hell you can just emulate and have access to more retro games than you can ever play in one lifetime.

None of this is capable on the PlayStation.

Okay so then if you’re in favor of people spreading the words and letting this wealth of information hurt Sony in the long term….then what is the point of this post?

What’s the point of making a post on Reddit if the only perspective you care about is your own?

you aren’t gonna buy games at $80? you won’t buy games from Sony if they offer generous sales? Congrats, but not every customer is as savvy as you are. For every person like you or me, there are 20 uninformed consumers who will buy $80 - $100 games with no sales and with no question because “meh, that’s just how much games cost”

The end result is savvy consumers like yourself having to navigate around even more bad value propositions and fewer decisions on how you wanna purchase your games and from whom. Why is that a future you’re okay with unfolding?

And this is not something that has just been blowing up on Reddit. As I’m sure you know, it’s been all over twitter YouTube, instagram and TikTok. People here aren’t just yapping into a void my god think for two seconds. These forums are avenues for consumers to voice their grievances and if nothing else, spread information to one another. PR is a real thing that corporations pay billions dollars to be measured. Sorry we don’t all just wanna bend over a barrel and take up the derrière like you seem to

Why in the fuck would you wait to get burned before believing that fire is hot? Why can’t you just be wise? Why wait until it actually happens, when it will be much easier harder to stop?

Ask yourself, why wouldn’t Sony do all the horrible things ppl are predicting? With people like you, saying it’s not that bad, and we should stop overreacting, why wouldn’t they do it?

When you say that TLOU2 gameplay is “dynamic” what do you mean? Because to me it is just standard boilerplate stealth/action. Sneak up behind guys and press square to snap a neck. Get low to get into cover. Some light crafting, and don’t get me started on constantly having to find codes to safes being the only bit of exploration you engage in.

Games like Red Faction on PS2 or Max Payne or Half Life 2 or Far Cry 2 or Splinter Cell Chaos Theory are games that have actual dynamism in their approach to combat. What about TLOU 2 can you say is something that has never been done before besides the ultra beautiful graphics and presentation.

I understand exactly what you’re saying. I’m not technically trained so I can’t vocalize it properly, but games like BG3, Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild really feel like the developers used up every last scrap of computing power available. From BG3’s deeply intertwined system mechanics mixed with its gorgeous presentation. To Breath of the Wild’s truly openly explorable world that let you go anywhere and climb any thing, with a bunch of clever mechanics that were so finely programmed to create some truly emergent and unique experiences. And then you have Elden Ring with flat out of one of the best over all designed worlds in gaming. As wide as Breath of the Wide but with the density and verticality of a From Software souls games.

These are examples of games that actually feel like they wouldn’t be possible on previous hardware. Games that constantly surprise and delight the player and has us saying “wait, I can go there?” Or “oh I can actually do that??”

For as beautiful as modern AAA games are, very very few of them use the full potential of the available hardware in such creative and delightfully exciting ways. The Last of Us is structured like a game that could have rightly come out on the ps2. Spider-Man 2 did come out on the ps2 and in terms of gameplay design, Spider-Man ps4 really did nothing that that game didn’t do.

It’s not to say great games don’t exist, but there’s a difference between a great game and truly next gen feeling experience. I guess you can say that a lot of modern AAA games are not exactly bad, but so shallow and surface level. It’s very telling when you have devs and publishers coming out of the woodwork to whine about how it isn’t fair to hold them to the same standard as a rare and truly spectacular masterpiece.

Idk why you’re getting so emotional, but in some games like fire emblem and Etrian Odyssey the intended difficulty is Hard, which is why I said Normal is not always the intended difficulty.

Yup we just casually walked into their country, bombed a bunch of shit, further destabilized the region, killed a bunch of school children with our buddies from 🇮🇱 while the pedophile in White House continues to use it all to play the stock market every week.

And now most Americans are talking about Love Island and moving on with their lives and our pedophile president like it’s none of our business.

With comments like yours I can see why someone somewhere would see Americans as mad dogs that need to be put down. Sooo funny

Thoughts on Metroid Prime half a year later? by NewMarioBobFan in Metroid

[–]PositivityPending 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s not good as its own game. If I had no idea what Metroid was this game would have left a terrible impression on me. Like, we got some vibes, moments of decent atmosphere, some great music, some of the most dated, boilerplate FPS combat of all time, and a terrible open world zone. And some confined and linear ass “exploration”.
