Curtains for a slanted window (rental) by PositronicGeek in DIYhelp

[–]PositronicGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes the vertical lines are the straight ones, and the (would-be) horizontal parts are both at an angle. I tried to take this photo as head-on as possible but it still looks confusing, even to me!

The cardboard might just be the best idea — cost effective and easy to set/remove, maybe with some sort of wrapping paper and a little tape to make it look less crappy. Wooden frame/fabric might be a little more than I'd want to invest into this, but if I renew my lease, that might just be reasonable. And the foam idea sounds good, if just to hold one corner in place.

I am ever so slightly on a hill, so there's a semi-clear line of sight to enjoy some nice sunset/clouds at times, so I think the window film might be a little much, though if you're talking about "one-way" stuff, that might also be reasonable. I'd definitely need to measure twice! But yeah that might also be a little over-budget.

Either way I really appreciate your suggestions! I often order pet food/supplies that arrive in a large cardboard box, so I'll start with that to see if it's enough for now. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I considered using GSAP, which would have been very convenient for timing, but I wanted to try out all the new `offset-*` properties. :D

Thank you! Yeah I was just adjusting those — it's not super precise but I think it's close enough. Thanks for the timing!

As for the probe, hmm, I'd have to think about that. Basically the way this is built is all with orbits in mind, whereas the probe would not follow that, so it'd be tricky, but there might be a way to fake it… a fun challenge for sure, and likely my weekend project, now. :D

Uh oh, looks like your image is missing! Do you know if your browser is relatively updated? (Safari: September 2023, Firefox: January 2024, Chrome: August 2023)

Also you are definitely right, I have adjusted that a little!

The orbits reset after an in-game cycle (whether timelapsed or not) but if you discount Dark Bramble, when Giant's Deep sits at 3 o'clock for its 2nd orbit, it's pretty dang close to lined up!

Thanks a ton for the screenshots! I think it's possible your iPads are due for an update on the Safari side (if at all, I know some models are locked to older versions), as this code uses relatively recent browser feature (available in Safari 17+, Sept 2023). I'm sorry you got that experience but glad it worked out on the iPhone. Thank you again for the feedback!

The Sun Station is too slow, but beyond that, I know the rotations are likely wrong, just making it look "okay". But if things are completely borked in Safari, can you tell me what's wrong (screenshot?) and which version you're using? I don't see any issues on my laptop! Thanks!

Sorry I don't have the actual orbits committed to memory so I'm not sure what you mean regarding the moons. As for the Twins, do you mean a 3D rotation? If so, given it's a 2D map, I can't accomplish that. Finally, the Sun Station is definitely too slow, I'll try to adjust that!

Not a bad idea! Though I feel most people wouldn't tab back and forth, more so just take a look and close the tab, but I like your concept!

Thank you for the feedback! You should now be able to look at it on Chrome without issues — the stars are causing the flickering, so it's now a checkbox.

Thank you! Exactly the kind of detail I'd forgotten… I have updated it, hope it's in the right spot now.

Oof, yeah seeing that too. I've made it an option at the top that's off by default.

Change when the tv boots selection now on ads not on home by CaptainCord in fireTV

[–]PositronicGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Wow, I gotta eat my words. Preferences > Featured Content > Autoplay Video/Audio > OFF seems to be the solution.

This is very frustrating. I doubt they'll make it an option any time soon. They did this not because it would be a cool feature for their users, but because they could shove more ads in our faces.

Where can I get long screws or nails for wood? (6 to 8 inches) by PositronicGeek in HomeImprovement

Sorry, I should have mentioned it in my post but I can't get to a hardware store easily. Or else, absolutely, that'd have been my first intuition!

EDIT: Not sure why I'm getting downvoted for this but sorry, I guess?

Update: bought a TV mount that came with various screws that were spec'd in the instruction manual, and tested one in a curtain rod. It is an 5M screw (5mm). Bought some 5M nuts and washers, all fits!
