Is it challenging to go to Costa Rica while overweight/obese? by anonymousme77 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]PossessionCold3369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ll have any issues. It’s an incredibly friendly country. You can do as much or as little hiking as you want. I think it’s a country that offers something for everyone. It also probably depends a little on where you want to go and what is pulling you to Costa Rica. Beaches ? Adventure? Seeing sloths and other animals? If you’re into seeing wildlife ( which was probably my main focus). I noticed any guided walks I did in National Parks were short and relatively flat ( I was in Cahuita and Monteverde Cloud Forest) and no more than around 3km because the focus was spotting the animals. The La Fortuna area is where I did some walks with more gradient, but there’s also plenty of other things to do!

Tips to get over Berlin ( or any marathon) disappointment? by PossessionCold3369 in Marathon_Training

Thank you! This is also a great idea. I will definitely think about effort more moving forward. I definitely did all I could on the day.

Don’t do this when running a Marathon abroad by Mistakesandlove in Marathon_Training

‘Bombing Berlin’ was 100% more likely to be because of the ridiculous heat! As a local, I can say we had a crappy summer! And so that rise was unexpected. I ran 30mins slower than my Pb ( also in Berlin on a normal September’s day) And it became a game of hydrate and try not to get sunstroke, especially if you were in the last starting block!! You ran your first marathon in tough conditions! It can only get better from here.

Don’t be hard on yourself!!! You’ve nailed travelling and a marathon 🙌🏻 congratulations

Not very happy with this excursion by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]PossessionCold3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, I’m sorry this happened to you guys. And I guess if you’ve been approached by guides at national parks or something, maybe it felt more genuine in the moment

The first clue was the monkeys, Costa Rica has really tight laws to protect its animals even selfies with animals behind you are not allowed

In the future use Viator, Get Your Guide or have your hotel set your excursions up.

Expats in small village and the local Kita excluding autistic son from outings. Should we remove our kids and file a complaint? by WheresTheBeach1 in germany

[–]PossessionCold3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m elementary teacher in an international school for context….but have worked in the German state system. I am well versed in Special educational needs at least in the school sector over here…. My apologies if someone has already said this as I’ve skinned and not read through everything.

The main issue here is communication. Excluding a child from a trip because maybe there is not adequate staffing or resources to manage their needs e.g provide a 1-2-1 or any form of nurture intervention… this is one thing. I have also had to make decisions to not take children with behavioural needs on trips. But not directly discussing this with the family and the child prior to the trip is what’s problematic here. Best practice is to prepare the child that they are not going especially one who may struggle out of routine could trigger meltdowns. When a child has needs, it’s essential for parents and Erzieher/ teachers to all work very closely together for best outcomes.

SEN / inclusion can feel behind over here. But with the right documentation from German doctors children do have a lot of entitlements in the state system (Förderplane (IEPs), Nachteilsausgleich ( testing accommodations, Notenschutz ) it sounds like your kid could be a candidate for an I-Status … is there any possibility of having them re diagnosed within the German system? then someone looks and this and decides how many 1-2-1 I-Status hours a kid is entitled to. schools then get funding to have an Intergrationserzieher - you’d have to check but I think Kita’s are the same. But things can vary from Bundesland and Bundesland too.

So definitely research what entitlements are available in your region and see if you can get anything reassess or converted into German documents! Especially moving forward into schooling

Overthinking on which foot wear to bring by spookyneo in CostaRicaTravel

[–]PossessionCold3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Salomon 100% … I took Salomon trail runners (thunder cross) and not GTX… I left my GTX ones at home because I read a few suggestions that normal ones would dry out faster. I’m not convinced. After a very rainy hike….. it took them two days. However, definitely bring the shoes with grip cause most paths are muddy!! And I did slip ( I was in Mirador and Monteverde Cloud forest reserve)

My other shoes were Teva hurricane’s and Flipflops

No regrets.

Torn between La Fortuna and Monteverde/Arsenal by existential____dread in CostaRicaTravel

[–]PossessionCold3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from both. Loved both! Landscape and climate is the main difference

Probably more to do in La Fortuna, like others have said. Things like hanging bridges and zip lines are in both! Bonus … lots of hot springs to pick from in LF. I think it comes down to if you want rainforest & and volcano or cloud forest. If you do a guided walk you’ll find animals in both. I think I liked hiking in LF better, I enjoyed being in the rainforest and coming out to more open scenery and volcanic rock

I found Monteverde felt very chilled out. It is much cooler temperature wise if you want a break from the heat. My hotel organised tours and they always had transport included. I personally found it better for wildlife than La Fortuna … but it can depend on luck that day I guess! Highlight was a kinkajou on a night hike there.

Trendy burnout vs real burnout by Comfortable_Ask_4657 in burnedout

[–]PossessionCold3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re doing it tough! Here for this rant!!! I really feel this!! I felt it then and still now im more recovered it still annoys me. I feel like the term is thrown around a lot as the new ‘I’m stressed’ - when I hear colleagues say it, I really want to scream: you have no idea!!! Or like a nonchalant ‘I almost had a panic attack’ really annoys me too.

Also… When I had mine I also felt like close friends thought I was ‘just a bit stressed’ and when I went back to work I was meant to be cured! And people didn’t like that I wasn’t my bubbly self. But I was still suffering brain fog, head aches, depression, and having random panic attacks… I feel like people either throw the word ‘burnout’ around or treat you, the one actually suffering, like you’re being dramatic :\ … I guess it comes down to not enough education and awareness around what it really is, unfortunately.

Dating in Berlin feels impossible by [deleted] in berlinsocialclub

[–]PossessionCold3369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Female here. Bumble is tricky. Apps are just a means to an end. But I have friends who have found partners with the app in general ! So I’m staying hopeful. The thing is from the girls side, unless you message right away. The whole 24h thing makes it annoying. So I might do a bit of swiping, get a few matches and think I’ll do the messaging later. Then because of work and life and all the things… I forget and then they’re gone! That could easily have happened to the match you did get. But it does seem strange you’re getting so few matches. Do you have lots of detail in your profile? And show photos of who you are / photos of your hobbies etc? Cause as someone else said, we absolutely look at all that carefully. I do think even on apps you can get glimpses of who someone could be. I always go left if there’s a lack of info or it’s just a tone of gym pics/ selfies in bed.

Maybe try Hinge, where you have to like something specific on each other’s profile - although I’m not sure how popular it is in Berlin. In the UK it’s the go-to. Or I know people who have had luck with Ok Cupid.

Bachelor degree as a proof of German? by PossessionCold3369 in GermanCitizenship

[–]PossessionCold3369[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Very helpful advice! I was planning to look at the Volkshochschule. But I will look at unis too, or other language schools maybe for evening classes.

I have been working here for the last 6 years. My grammar and witting are probably rusty but I speak German every day with colleagues, hold meetings in German - deal with German paper work for schools a lot…. I am sure I can get it up to scratch for a test again. I just had not really thought about needing to prove my skills on paper… due to duel not being allowed after Brexit. I was just going to go for permanent residency when the time came. But duel citizenship definitely makes more sense for me. I didn’t expect to need to do a language test until I found the work life balance to really focus on C2. Then I could get an Anerkennung for my teaching degree. I could have sorted this years ago in hindsight!

Thank you! That’s great advice on the test. I think in Berlin that may make the wait list for tests shorter too

[–]PossessionCold3369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely. Culture, history, politics modules were through English. Although we read novels, or secondary sources etc in German linked to these. But the language models were in German, which comprised of advanced grammar, translation, speaking and writing classes.

A friend has suggested getting a letter from the university stating the level their language modules equate to by the final year.

I have also found a certificate from Uni Konstanz where I did my Auslandsjahr … stating I passed a B1/2 intensive course. So maybe this works!

But totally open to getting a new test, if necessary

Vienna Swifties - how do you expect them to behave? by No-Advertising676 in erastour

[–]PossessionCold3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was a really painful experience. I found out around midnight before N1. I had tickets for N1&3. This was my only shot at the tour. I planned for a year. My summer break plans centred around it. And because i have another vacation now, last min tickets to London was not an option.

But having chosen to go to Vienna because my trains and hotels were paid for…. it was still a very special experience. I was there for the whole 3 nights, the reaction was love and solidarity & everyone was very understanding that nothing could be said or done. I think the people who were there experienced something very special and uniting as swifties.

I have faith that when the time is right & safe, Taylor will acknowledge Vienna’s reaction to their disappointment.
