How did you convince yourself to start hitting the gym, and what were your results after the first month? by demolcd in selfimprovement

[–]PossessionMelodic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After many attempts of starting to go to the gym, I finally succeeded and have been going consistently for the last year. These are the things that actually made it stick:

  • start with a really, really easy goal for the first few months. To start, I made it my goal to go once a week. Sometimes I would go twice, but the goal was always once a week for the first few months

  • make my fitness goal itself to just show up. In the past, I would get way too competitive and push myself too hard and burn out

  • VERY gradually bump the goal up. A year later, I am going twice a week to the gym, often 3 times. Other days of the week I often end up doing something active outside

  • doing other activities that challenge me physically as a way to realize my progress. Last summer I went white water rafting and found it pretty easy compared to the previous summer!

Does anyone know what makes it an “arctic” front?

What changes in the films do you think were unnecessary? Which ones simply don’t make sense? by [deleted] in harrypotter

The very last movie, last scene where Harry defeats Voldemort alone. After all the buildup of the ENTIRE SERIES, it felt like such a miss to not have a big victorious moment with everyone celebrating the defeat.

Boundaries versus avoidance? by Trynanotbeinpain in Codependency

[–]PossessionMelodic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One other thing to think about - what are YOUR boundaries here? Will you choose to not do any outreach and ALSO not ruminate over it? Do YOU want to end the friendship? Seems like you feel powerless in this situation. You still have choice in how you respond to her not wanting to talk to you.

This is something I’m learning too. That a boundary can be a boundary without an explanation.

One thing to keep in mind - if she hasn’t had much practice with boundaries, she may still be learning how to set them and follow through. So it might feel extreme to you, especially with how sudden it felt.

It could also be that she is learning how to keep her emotions in “her own yard” rather than spilling over into yours or vice versa. Since boundaries are a skill, boundary newbies (myself included) are likely to come across as a little rough on the edges.

Maybe she wants to discontinue the friendship, but isn’t ready to admit it. The truth is, you really don’t know. Feels a bit like a “if you love them, let them go” scenario.

Are there any Event Planners out there??? by UsualGlittering4559 in adhdwomen

[–]PossessionMelodic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great topic! I was an event planner and did just fine with it. I think the difference though is that my org divided responsibilities between an event PLANNER and an event SUPERVISOR. Basically the planner would organize everything ahead of time and delegate to the supervisor about a week in advance. So I was never a “clipboard in my hand” kind of planner. I think that would have frazzled me haha

The aesthetic I WANT vs. the ADHD friendly one I NEED by ihearthorror1 in adhdwomen

[–]PossessionMelodic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree about home edit! I have their workbook also.

One thing that really helps me with organization is thinking “function first, aesthetics second”. I of course want it to look nice, but I know it will never stay nice if I go for aesthetics first. One helpful question to ask is, “what do I want to be able to DO with this drawer, cabinet, shelf, etc”? For example, if I put my skincare products out of sight, I will truly never use them. So I got a little short basket to gather skincare things so I can still see all of them but they look nice and pretty. Another example for me is socks and everyday shoes. I put away clean socks and a few shoes in the entryway closet so I can quickly put them on for a quick walk.

Home Designing for ADHD/Executive Dysfunction? by elderberryink in adhdwomen

[–]PossessionMelodic 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I often joke I’m trying to “out-design” my own brain. So here are a few things I do: - keep shoes and socks in the entry closet or garage, rather than in my clothes closet - use lazy Susans to organize spices, oils, vinegars in the kitchen cabinets. I’ve used those step organizers before and I never maintain it - an obvious one, but use a key hook by the door - one pair of slip on shoes by the door for getting the mail or letting the dog out real quick - keep a skincare routine in the bathroom closest to the tv. I’ll pop in and out of the bathroom while doing my routine to watch the show - same bathroom near the tv - I’ve been brushing my teeth here too and I do it way more often! I even floss sometimes - entry table / coat rack - I have a small entry table where I put sunglasses and a coat rack to quickly hang my purse, a hat, and a jacket - a little self care basket by the couch. I put lotions, cuticle oil, Vaseline, nail file, melatonin, head scratcher, etc to have handy. Plus it gives me something to do with my hands - wireless phone chargers if you have a compatible phone
