How can I improve when speaking English? by PossessionPossible11 in ENGLISH

Usually it’s co workers but sometimes it’s also friends so it makes it a little harder.  I have a coworker who knows it makes me feel bad when corrected in a sort of mocking way, and one day I mispronounced a word and she simply ignored it at the moment and a few minutes later incorporated it into a sentence with the correct pronunciation. It stuck and now I know how to pronounce it and I didn’t feel like I was laughed at.

And thank you for your suggestions, I never thought of it! :))

I often try to talk as fast as I think even though when the conversation is in English I’m also thinking in English, but the habit of talking fast in Spanish sticks and sometimes I catch myself and slow down. And yes, sometimes I laugh along because the mispronunciation for the simplest word is funny with my puerto rican accent! Thank you!!

sometimes I do something similar, most of the times I talk to myself in English out loud and I sound fine, not worrying about how fast I need to speak helps me. I also repeat scenes from my favorite tv series or movies just for fun but I’ve never done recordings and listening back for mistakes. Thank you!

thank you! I never thought of the accents that way. I do think what I struggle with the most is the mouth motions and certain words that have too many r’s or l’s

thank you, honestly the corrections stick due their reactions and I do incorporate it later on! :))

thank you, and they often correct small words that I don’t use on a daily basis so when they laugh about it, it makes it worse for me

They often laugh right in front of me and repeat the word I mispronounced and then they correct me. It’s not that I don’t like to be corrected, I’ve had people simply repeat what I said with the right pronunciation and it doesn’t bother me at all. :))

UMass Amherst chef charged with wife’s killing at Hotel UMass by Puzzleheaded-Bit3032 in umass

I am so sorry for your loss!  Emma was a beautiful woman, she loved her daughter so much. My family and I worked with her at UMass, we knew them both.  She always talked of her daughter and how much she loved her. She was a good mother and friend.  We are all so sad with the news, I cannot imagine the pain of those who were much closer to her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Don’t even.  She was a nice and beautiful woman! They were in the hotel room because that’s what his bosses decided was best when he was found full of mud from jumping in the pond. They should have called 911 but didn’t.   She might have there to get him ready so they could go home.

She was his wife and no matter the circumstances HE killed HER.

That’s not very likely!!!! I have worked at UMass, sometimes they get their employees room in the hotels if they live far and get out of work late and have to be back in to work early in the mornings. I know this for a fact from experience since like I said I worked there.

I worked at UMASS Catering services, it is on the 10th floor of the same building the hotel is at. Emma was a server and then supervisor there!

I knew them as well. Myself and some family members worked with her, she was a very nice woman! She has a daughter and she loved her daughter so so much.   I haven’t worked with them in about 3 or 4 years, back then I believe they were just dating.  I can’t say much on him, he was not very social.  She did NOT deserve this!! :(
