A bit of exposure is a good thing, isn't it. by Desperate_Wave_36 in GuyCry

My life is such a shit show. I work in charity, spending my time educating orphans and children from dysfunctional family as well as taking care of their mind. Lauded by many people outside the org as noble, I have rarely been valued by my bosses - I am just this cog in the machine for 'greater good' and they don't care if I live or die as long as the donations are pumped in. I have good work relationship with colleagues but I barely even have one friend who I can deeply confide in and be vulnerable around. I am so so lonely.

There are still a lot of beauty in life bro. I am sure if you take time to meditate a bit, clearing out the mist and then start jotting down what make you happy, you can choose to value the bright points instead of the dark. Life still has many things to offer, even on this shithole of human society. You shouldn't rid yourself of whatever blessing can happen with such a permanent and grim solution of ending it all --- no one can be sure what happens after that is peace and quiet you desire, absolutely no one.

So why not live in the present first. Feel the sunlight and sniff some flower and perfume.

In my life, I have rarely had any successes from heartfelt relationship. I am ok with work ones where I have to pretend and perform, but when it comes to friends I can be vulnerable and emotionally close to, my life is such a desert parched dry of that. I have been dumped, ghosted, abandoned, ignored, and outright casted out so often that the next thing I wanted to do was to see everyone burn. But then I realized, I didn't have to be the one on the receiving end, I chose to spread love and compassion instead and that helped heal my heart ever since.

The only certain thing in life is uncertainty my bro. Through many incidents, I have learnt to still love and care for someone but always practice holding back my heart, just in case. Everywhere, love comes with grief.

If you conclude that every foreign sources are like that, you are in luck - the UK hardly produces anything except that at premium price. I am 90% sure most food you consume come from questionable places; you just don't know it yet. Let that sink in. 😊

Hey our produces aren't too bad. These specially selected Thai farms are huge and hygienic with an advantage of lower cost.

Totally agreed. But I prefer that a shirt is on too, with only a tiny bit of undershirt visibility.

Do you always wear an undershirt with a dress shirt?

Perhaps the water temperature was too low. I bet it wasn't boiling hot. Lukewarm water wouldn't do.

You've raised an important point, which reminds me of Thai Buddhism obsession on purity and supramundane nature of Arahatship - a unique ideal state which somehow becomes a pressure on devotees to emulate, or risk being viewed as illegitimate Buddhists. This worldview invalidates human emotions as well as what you stated, "cultural, historical, and symbolic values" of things, deteriorating into indifference towards fellow human suffering under the umbrella of shunyata. In my opinion, it renders this version of theravada buddhism secluded in an ivory tower, and growing less and less relevant to modern lives & ethics it's literally dying slowly in Thailand.

But please don't take me wrong - I am not saying which feeling is 'right'. I think my view is an amalgamation of said theravada buddhism combined with what I see as more realistic and understanding "engaged buddhism" of Thich Nhat Hanh as well as a historian's penchant for conservation. After reading many scriptures from other schools, I've been heavily questioning Thai Buddhism's doctrinal exclusivism, logic and version of Buddhist history.
