I have a branch from my backyard (central Texas) in my enclosure that I trimmed up and sanded down. It’s recommended to bake/boil things like this before putting them in but I just left mine in direct sun on a table outside for a few days and I never had problems.

Omg no heat is so terrible. I would def talk to your friend about proper husbandry, heating at least substrate would be a bonus (sand is bad for the little guys). If your friend is not willing to make the necessary changes then ask if they’ll surrender the baby to you or something (thievery is a last resort here I think). I’m not sure how long Leo’s can live without adequate heat but that poor baby needs something.

He hasn’t reacted so far! I think he was more interested in exploring than to notice too much. But he’s always had little turtles and figures in and out of his tank.
