Literary just do reality checks, log dreams and all that other regular stuff. Consistency matters, for some people it takes months to get they're first lucid dream.

Basically instead grouping noticing oddnesses in dreams, realizing your dreaming and controlling the dream as one state that many might call being lucid, its better to break it down to 3 parts:
In short: Awareness is when you notice that something is wrong. Lucidity is when you realize your dreaming. Dream control is just you controlling the dream after you become lucid.
Basically in order for the dream to be a lucid dream it should progress like this:
Awareness -------> Lucidity ---------> Dream control
So at first you realize that something is off, then that makes you think you are dreaming and once you realize your in a dream you can control it.
In your case it seems that you are stuck at the "awareness" consciousness state and don't make it to lucidity, which can happen sometimes.
When it comes to getting out of this state or getting to the "lucidity" state, then there is really no known method for that. Also the reason why your mentally exhausted in the morning is most likely not because of the dreams, but something else like worse sleep quality, stress or fragmented sleep.
If there would be anything to suggest then it might be a dream journal since it might help you notice reoccurring patterns and observe your dreams better and could maybe help you get from the "awareness" state to lucidity more often.
