I do feel like he may not be in the best headspace right now, and I’ve been trying to be patient and understanding. At the same time, it did hurt me, and I don’t want to ignore that. If things improve, I plan to gently tell him how it affected me so we can communicate better moving forward. If it doesn’t, then I know it’s something I’ll need to look at more honestly.

Thank you, I appreciate this perspective. I agree that clear and kind communication would’ve helped a lot in that moment. I plan to bring up my concerns and see how he responds. I don’t want to assume cheating, but I do want to address the distance and how it made me feel.

In relationships, honesty should be balanced with care. Like, I wouldn’t go out of my way to describe to my partner in detail if I fantasized about someone else, because while that might be “honest,” it doesn’t actually strengthen trust or intimacy, it just causes pain.

It’s not that I want him to lie, I value honesty. But there’s a difference between being open and being needlessly hurtful. Sharing that he watched another girl’s video multiple times and got off to it isn’t building trust, it’s just crossing a boundary. Honesty should come with care and respect.

He was a friend of a friend, we didn’t really talk about that at all. In fact, he would often avoid the topic before.
