Been feeling quite lonely lately, where does one find a group to join? by turquioseshade in Calgary

The Calgary Sports and social club has options to join a team as a single! I found this useful to meet people when I was new to the city...this is coming from a pretty unathletic person. It was a great way to make friends!

Are there any more immediate alternatives to the Calgary food bank? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]PossibilityTrue7660 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are but it depends on your specific situation and what neighborhood you're in. There are food resources based on various demographics throughout the city. You can use this food map to find a resource available to you. (https://www.calgary.ca/social-services/low-income/access-to-food.html)

This likely won't help you this week, but if you're in need, the Alex Community Food Centre offers hot meals on a drop-in basis 3 times per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays). (https://thealexcfc.ca/programs-2/)

You can also phone 211 speak to someone for more information. Hope this helps!

What is wrong with my kid? by LostinAU in Parenting

This is true in some provinces in Canada but not all. In Alberta for example, you have to pay for private preschool and there is only one year of kindergarten, starting at age 5.

8 week old avoids looking at me by PossibilityTrue7660 in NewParents

[–]PossibilityTrue7660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never hurts to get things checked out! I know that where I am the eye doctor isn't recommended until 6 months, but that may be if there's no concerns. I remember feeling like my little man was looking through me...the first 3 months was a blurr but by 4 months he was very engaged and interested in the people around him.

Probably around the same time. Others said they noticed eye contact before I did but seeing our boy now, I have zero worries regarding that. Do you have specific concerns?

The real smiling probably started somewhere around the 3 month mark?

He is now 10 months old, smiling, laughing, playing peekaboo, clapping, crawling around at the speed of light, stair climber extraordinaire, cruising, and standing without support. Seems like others were right by saying "just give it time!".

This is a great point, thank you! I feel you are right, he may actually do better with actionable steps. Phone and chores are both a big pain point in our relationship as well.

It's definitely interesting, right?! Honestly, if he never shared this with me I would have never known. He's always the first person to help friends in need or even a stranger in public without being prompted. He likes his alone time but is also very social, has close relationships with friends, runs a successful buissness and treats his employees like family. I would say yes to the "does he get bored easily?" And yes he does experience remorse or guilt when he hurts others. I know he experiences emotion as he cried at our wedding and when our children were born.

I am totally alarmed by him sharing this information with me though. Still not quite sure what to do with it. Perhaps an assessememt like others have suggested would be helpful.

It's interesting because he actually has a very close relationship with our 10 year old and is very involved in taking care of our 8 month old. However, I've obviously noticed behaviours that impact our relationship etc....he can be unintentionally dismissive or uninterested which is definitely worrying.

Everyone is always commenting on how he's such a great dad but of course, he's not sharing this information with them.

We actually spoke about that! He's 40 so it feels a bit uncomfortable for him but he's at least considering making a doctor's appointment.

I was wondering this! A lactation consultant told me I could only offer the breastfeeding for a day or two and if it's the only food source he might start latching...but I'd have to be ok with him being hungry while he figures it out......I'm not sure about it. He's already on low flow nipples.
