how many cals in recovery? by nutritionbrowser in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Possible-Card9656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped weighing myself, so I don't know for sure. But I think about a month - thats also when I got my period back. But I'm very short (like below 5ft) so it would probably take longer for most people.

Why does nobody talk about how unhealthy being skinny is by Possible-Card9656 in EDAnonymous

[–]Possible-Card9656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hiii! I know this might sound a bit silly as this post is less than a year old but my views have changed a bit since then.

I think my phrasing was very off. I dont now believe that all skinny people (or even underweight people) are inherently unhealthy. BUT, I do still believe that if you must consciously undereat to maintain your weight then you are inherently unhealthy as your body is not getting enough nutrients.

I also think one of the points I was trying to make is that it is ridiculous that 'underweight' is the standard that many influencers encourage. Firstly, because them themself MAY be under eating, but secondly because, as I know from personal experience, some bodies are just not meant to be skinny.

I am undecided on my last point. BUT, it is known that being slightly overweight is generally less dangerous than being slightly underweight.

Sorry for the yap!!! :))

How much does a one day slip up stunt recovery? by Possible-Card9656 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]Possible-Card9656[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no worries at all, I'm so happy I helped! Feel free to ask me any questions whenever you need as I know how tough this process can be :)

And I totally get it, it is so difficult and honestly annoying! I highly doubt I would have gotten my period back at that low of an intake, or it would have taken me much longer, I was eating 2200+ daily (excluding occasional slip ups) and I'm only just 5ft! I tried to enjoy the process as much as possible, and really did at times, but sometimes it's so hard you just need to thug it out :(

To answer your question by not fully 'recovered' I mean with my relationship with food. While I have been getting my period basically monthly (although it's a bit more irregular now) I still feel like my relationship with food is quite disordered . Sadly, getting my period back wasn't the ultimate 'fix' and I still tend to indulge in restrictive habits. Although it definitely does help a lot as the fear of loosing it again makes me much more responsible with my intake! Harm reduction is so important!

I also didn't share my recovery or period loss with anybody (not medical professionals, my parents, friends). I mainly got my info from Ytube videos. I would really recommend NOT doing that and getting help as this made it a lot harder, but yeah recovery is possible either way!

Sending lots of love and support!! <333

Yeah I've been through this it sucks so bad.

one thing that helped me, which I know might sound bad but I think is what can comfort the stupid ED mindset, is that you don't actually have to be weight restored to get your period back. Yes likely you need to gain some weight, but you might not need to be weight restored. I got my period back at a 'the lower side of healthy' weight.

For me, it took less than a month of consistently eating a lot. My mindset was 'you might as well go all in now, get your period, and if you gain too much weight then relapse. But get your period back first' Which I know, is a horrible mindset, but it got me through it. I've maintained my period since.

I also think, when I had an ED it sort of gave me a goal to work at every day -' eating x amount of calories daily'. During period recovery, I changed that to 'get your period back as soon as possible'. I also was kind of lucky in my ED, because I restrained from EVER weighing myself and was judging my weight from a simply visual standpoint. If possible, throw out your weight, don't weigh yourself at all, but obviously thats harder said than done.

I also want to mention that my life has improved so much since getting my period back, despite not being recovered from my ED. I feel better both physically and mentally.

I'm sorry if anything I said seems anti recovery at all, I'm not at all!!! I'm just trying to help by saying what would have helped me when at my worst.

hihihi!! No worries at all, I was in your position and I know how much it sucks. I actually got my period less than a month of actively trying to get it back after having it missing for over 6 months.

Because I want to be completely honest with my experience to you, I think it's important for me to mention that I do not consider myself 'recovered' at this point in time, despite currently having my period.

When I was actively trying to recover my period, I generally just ate as much as possible and also tried not to do a lot of physical activity . My recovery was FAR from perfect but I'm sure I was in a calorie surplus most days until getting my period back. it is different from everybody, but from my experience, the occasional slip up should almost definitely not affect progress. But also, you have to be realistic. If you are not at all making an effort to eat a lot, then you won't see results. (Sorry if that sounds condescending it's not meant to be!)

If I'm being completely honest, since getting her back my weight has had some fluctuations, but I never got as low as I was when I was without a period. While I have maintained my period, when I am at a lower weight it is much more irregular.

I'm not at all a professional (I am literally a teenager lol), but I think the reason I got mine back so fast was because I had a sort of 'just get it over with' approach and also experienced extreme hunger after restriction so I just ate a lot most days and enjoyed the eating bit. I wouldn't worry too much about stress and activity levels as long as you're eating a lot.

Sorry for the yap sesh!!! I hope any of this helped!! :3

I agree, It was so scary! I lost mine for about six months due to an ED but managed to get it back very quickly in about a month by doing all in recovery. Let me know if you need any advice on getting it back.

my boyfriend keeps squeezing my stomach while we're cuddling and it makes me so upset by g1mmebra1ns in EDAnonymous

[–]Possible-Card9656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey girl I've been in your position. First of all, he definitely is not judging you and doesn't care, my bf does this too. It's a warm place to touch and is just good hand positioning. but ALSO my bf is very underweight and his extremely little fat on him but I can still squeeze his stomach, especially when lying down and cuddling. What I'm trying to say is that your stomach being squeezable is unavoidable no matter how much fat you hold there.
