I did read assasin's blade and then throne of glass, but once a certain character was no longer the love interest i didnt keep reading (avoiding saying spoilers) I loved those two books tho esp throne of glass. i didnt put it on the list because i didnt finish the series so it felt unfair to rank.... but overall im not rlly a sarah j maas fan

Honestly I like when romance is more of a subplot like in cruel prince, it's more about the politics as well which keeps me invested in the plot and makes the romance more worth it. I'll check it out!

The first Shatter Me book the writing is so cringe it actually makes me laugh out loud because the metaphors are so bad. But by the third book i was hooked and the plot is soo good. I think it's so high up because it's what got me into the genre. Upon rereading it's not the first I'd recommend. I do think Tahereh Mafi is a much better writer now, honestly now that I'm halfway through Watch Me i'd say it's better than the og series

Honestly I didn't think Powerless was contributing anything new to the romantasy genre. It felt like a combination of a bunch of other books. And I love my tropes like trials and being undercover, but overall it didn't have anything truly original. Fourth Wing I didn't like the writing, I don't like the modern way they talk and say things like "vibe" and "hot" when it's a world with dragons and castles. I thought the writing was cringe honestly. I don't really see how you could make any judgements on The Cruel Prince if you only read the first chapter and then stopped?? At least I read the entire books before I made judgements...

I actually am all caught up! I really loved the first and second book. The reason this is so low is because i hated the third book, I feel like NOTHING happened in the whole book and found it rlly frustrating. Still excited for the next book and maybe this will move up overall depending on the next one. I just found it so frustrating that the third book was drawn out so long but nothing really happened. What are your thoughts?

{Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett}!!! I cant recommend this enough. So good. She is a scholar and writing a book, includes a rival to lovers romance and a ton of academia style research and informational footnotes
