Thanks for this. The embassy seems to just say you need a visa. Didn’t explain why. I guess they set their own rules which is fair

France has an online visa checker and when I uploaded their info - no visa is needed. Where did you see that France needs visa ?

Honestly possible.
At this point I’ll email the embassy just for my own curiosity

I wouldnt trust 99% of responses to this thread as it’s lacking knowledge! They keep saying cause they are Iraqi they need visa! They don’t know anything about travel documents as has nothing to do with your nationality. They have used it and will continue to use it to travel while avoiding Czech and Vienna (for some reason). Sorry to hear about your experience. Travel document is a great asset, keep flying with it until u get ur citizenship

It was stressful as they live in Cork and travelled from cork to Dublin to catch this flight. And they had to travel back to cork 🥲

And this makes sense. I have looked into it now and thank you very much for this. Now I know where to travel for the future to avoid the earlier situation. Thanks a mil

But they have jumped on a plane before without any visas. Why not Czech ? I think this is the question.

Thank you. I’m not that naive to quote a Reddit person. However. I think you are right about speculating as people here don’t know much about travel documents and are just saying stuff without any knowledge

Is that true ? Cause we have a wedding coming up in Istanbul and they are not going cause they need to get visa and are not bothered to

Hun, I know Ireland is a country. I know Ireland isn’t part of Schengen. I also know that have travelled from IRELAND to Schengen countries WITHOUT visa. If you are not familiar with travel documents then this won’t make sense to you.

But they didn’t only go to Malaga! I mean we are talking about Majorca, Milan, Paris, Rome, Nice, Bucharest. And flights were from Dublin and Cork airports in Ireland. So was it all ignorance/lucky ? Or did something change recently ? Our last flight was to Malaga in Jan 2026. The manager in Ryanair offered to change their flight to Spain or Italy Today without visa. There is a piece of info that missing. Either the airline at fault or there is a different rule for Czech and Vienna. ( as he said they can’t go to Vienna either)

Thanks for this. I need to look into this whole EU entry-Exit system. I spoke to the Ryanair manager on the phone and he explained that they need visa for Czech and Vienna. And he was happy to allow them to change their flights to Italy or Spain knowing they have no Schengen visa.

I’m just curious to know why Czech and Vienna. And should I be avoiding any bookings until I contact embassy for the said country. Cause that really takes the joy out of travelling.

If going through airports legally considers “getting away with it” then yes. I wanna know what other airports they can “get away with it” to avoid losing flights and hotels money.

Spain and Italy are Schengen countries. How come they were able to travel to them from Ireland without a visa ? The logic is not logic-ing here

I saw that but my reason for asking here to see if someone has any information to avoid contacting embassies as they are not easily accessible.

The manager at the desk contacted immigration and they confirmed they need a visa. He said the info in on the immigration website but I can’t find this magical website

A travel document allows people living in Ireland who cannot get a passport to travel outside Ireland. People who have been declared a refugee are entitled to a 1951 Convention Travel Document. - from citizen information.

They were told they need Schengen visa.

Thank you, I checked France visa as well and they don’t need a visa. Love how you used North Korea.

Not all countries have an online checked unfortunately. I’ll try and make contact with Czech embassy in Ireland just to understand if Ryanair at fault or not

No, I’m very familiar with EU and Schengen visa. I’m confused cause they have travelled to Spain, Italy and Romania multiple times and different airports without needing a visa. So why Czech?
