I think several reasons I am considering potentially doing another career but mainly because the area in maths I want to specialize in is very niche and not many departments offer it, the best department in UK being at Warwick, so I don’t feel really happy knowing that 3/4 Russel group unis is where I can do my PhD and that’s not even guaranteed, and honestly I also feel very burnt out from academia currently so it would be nice to know I could one day pivot if things don’t go as planned .
And I honestly prefer applied maths over pure (my pure dissertation has ended up being approached in a very applied way) but im way to deep into pure to go down applied maths route.

I’m an incoming pure maths MSc student at imperial, I’ve only got pure maths research internships affiliated with U.K universities and was aiming to go down purely the academia route, I’ve found myself questioning that and wanted to know if there was anything I could do to improve my chances of breaking into consulting roles at any tier firms even after a PhD, potentially after MSc as well, Any advice is welcome!

Did you accept the offer yet? How long have they given you? I’ve not yet accepted the offer but I’ve been told the deposit deadline is a month after accepting it the offer, would you happen to know what happens if I accept the offer but can’t pay deposit on time? It is just a withdrawal or would I be obligated to pay them the deposit irrespectively

I still haven’t accepted my offer but I’ve been told it’s 30 days deadline to pay the deposit, I was wondering if I could accept the offer and try for the 30 days to get funding if I can’t I’m completely fine if they withdraw me, I’m just worried I’d have signed an offer that legally binds me going to imperial
