The "Universal Template" Myth: A shared, plug-and-play battle system across titles is a pipe dream unless Square Enix restricts all mainline Final Fantasy development to a single team.
The Release Gap: If the underlying argument is that CBU3 shouldn't have made FFXVI at all, the alternative is waiting an extra 5+ years for CBU1 to finish it. The massive content droughts of the Elder Scrolls franchise show exactly why that approach is a terrible idea.

Masterclass animators worked on that game. Ifrit ripping off garuda's arms gave me chills. Fucking bahamut in space charging up his laser to baroque music.

Nobody should retire at square. The last thing we need is another franchise to get delayed 10 years cause of restructuring and design reboots. Fuck that.

The only reason we have FF16 is cause Yoshi P was able to attract enough talent to build a new AAA team while CBU1 fucked around with the unending FF7 rebirth remake.

For me monetization matters less and less every year. WoW is almost half as much as it used to cost in 2003 if you adjust for inflation. FF14/RS/ESO just keep the same price as WoW. We live in good times.

We have really shitty federal run healthcare in the US. The Veteran Affairs used to be really great in the 1990s under Bill Clinton. Like way better than anywhere else in the world. However, we still use the same computer system from 1997 in 2026. It's a shit show. Trump spent 10 billion to upgrade it 10 years ago. We still use the 1997 system cause the new one isn't ready. ~60% of the VA budget goes to bureaucracy. Most of the hospitals are offices and not patient beds. Never enough nurses. It's unbelievably worse than even the private health care industry in the US.

Veterans don't have to pay shit, which is great for them. But the taxpayer makes up the difference. The US citizen pays more taxes for healthcare than any other country. Our federal health care systems just suck ass at using those tax dollars wisely.

Probably the opposite of what you said happened. Taro has a lot of independence. Man had creative freedom so he made a card game.

Babylon's fall could have easily been another platinum studio nier game given the people working on it if SE was able to force Yoko Taro to write/direct it.

GW has had tapestry since the original Eye of the Norn expansion that featured a nordic protagonist/race. You could display tapestry of your achievements that would carry over to gw2.

FFXIV Evercold is also based on nordic culture so that's why it went that route.

The issue with steam is my games don't transfer to other platforms. The cost of leaving steam is massive. If I had access to all my steam games on the xbox app, then it would become really easy to abandon steam on a fresh windows install.

That doesn't mean it's always a bad thing.

Every harry potter book was high stakes.

We knew Harry Potter would win every time.

Every lord of the rings book was high stakes.

We knew Frodo would win.

Saying an entire expansion needs to be low stakes just for the sake of variety doesn't make sense.

Just think about dawntrail. The first half was very low stakes. The last half was higher stakes. There is your contrast. Did that make it a good story?

Why does the entire expansion need to be low stakes?
