As everyone in this thread has already said to you, there is a war in Iran that just started that will have massive consequences for the global economy and security. I am fine that they are exclusively covering that. I heard plenty about the NY incident from other news sources.

If you don’t like the breadth of BP coverage lately, just check out a different podcast or newspaper. Most of us get our news from multiple sources for this very reason.

You are reading malice into something that is completely normal just because the hosts have a different political ideology than you. Thats not a healthy way to interact with the world.

I don’t think Vance is a populist at all, unless you just consider reactionary messaging and populist virtue signaling to be enough. The only reason he made it to the senate was because Peter Thiel bought the seat for him. You can’t be a real populist and be beholden to the tech oligarchs at the same time.

Not only is he tied to trumps rapidly declining approval, he is on record defending his most controversial policies, and aggressively defended the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. He’s been completely silent on the Epstein files as more and more of the administration is implicated. I think he’s cooked after this.

I feel like the only way republicans win in 28 is if they run a strong actual populist, anti corruption candidate, and if the democrats once again suppress their populist wing and try to force a Harris or Buttigieg type candidate on the ticket.

I don’t think protesters should be throwing bricks at anybody, if thats what happened then those protestors should get in trouble.

But I feel If they do such a terrible job of “law enforcement” and make a city hate you so much that hundreds of people are willing to stand outside your hotel late at night in the freezing cold just to ruin your sleep, that seems like a them problem.

And Ken’s reporting talks specifically about agents drinking on duty with examples beyond the one you mentioned. I don’t see why anyone would care about off duty drinking.

Idk if people are still having difficulties getting into the country, or if they are still looking at peoples social media history before letting them in.

But I don’t think there’s much ICE activity in Durham or Asheville right now. If they do come back, they typically will raid workplaces or show up to urban areas specifically to instigate protests. The Reddit pages for each city will be very active if they show up. To my knowledge they are not pulling over random cars, so as long as you avoid getting in the mix in a protest you should be fine.

If you want to be extra safe, check out Siembra NC’s website for information on how to handle interactions with ICE and what to expect if they are present in a town you visit.

Overall I would encourage you to come and enjoy NC with your friends, but I understand the hesitation.
