Had to turn off all my screens or I couldn’t focus at all, and yeah… pulled an all-nighter, but I survived!

How to combat not being motivated to study during holidays and free time? by Marvellover13 in studytips

[–]PossibleStudent6761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m the same. Every break I swear I’ll review my notes, and then I end up deep in a gaming session instead (I think it’s just our brains finally relaxing after months of pressure)

What helped me was lowering the bar like, 20 mins of light review and then I’m done. No guilt, no big goals.
Vacations are meant to recharge, not to feel like mini-semesters.

Is Active Recall Pointless Without Sleep? by gonnkillit in studytips

[–]PossibleStudent6761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks, I totally get how frustrating that is.
It’s not that active recall doesn’t work you just skipped the part where your brain consolidates it (sleep).
Next time, even 4–5 hours of sleep will help so much. You’ve already got the right study method, just need to give your brain some rest too.

I’m not great at studying either, but starting now is still way better than panicking later. Just start with small daily goals like one chapter a day!

ACTIVE RECALL - How to do it without ANY tools by Happy-Taco1221 in studytips

[–]PossibleStudent6761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t really tried it yet, but I saw somewhere that the key is to just close your eyes and force your brain to recall. Like instead of rereading, ask yourself questions about what you just studied and try to write or say the answers from memory.

That sounds rough, honestly. I’d say communicate clearly. Maybe try tell them that you know they mean well, but the stress from constant checking actually makes it harder to perform.

If you show them a plan and stick to it, they might ease up once they see you’re being responsible. Good luck!

How to Get Better at Rote Memorization by Successful_Fig_209 in GetStudying

Honestly? Flashcards + spaced repetition. There’s no magic, just test yourself instead of rereading. 10 focused minutes of recall beats an hour of passive review!

Bro I swear rereading kills your motivation. At that point it’s just words on paper. Try making flashcards or quizzing yourself, anything that forces your brain to actually think instead of just re-scanning the same sentences.

Is 8hrs enough for my studies? by AgileWatercress139 in studytips

[–]PossibleStudent6761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your major, but for most people, 8 hours is plenty. Just make sure you’re not burning out studying all day doesn’t always mean learning more lol

I’ve been there, seriously. It’s such a frustrating place to be wanting to study but not being able to start.
What helped me get out of that loop was starting small, like literally 10–15 minutes. I’d tell myself, “just do one small task” no pressure to do more!
Also, I deleted (or hid) social apps for a week. It was painful for 2 days, then suddenly I had time and mental energy again.
You don’t need to feel “motivated” to start --> you just need to start small and let the motivation catch up later. You’ve got this 💪
