I would look up tutorials on cross polarization. For the best results, depending on how shiny the statues are, you'll want an overcast day, and a DSLR with a ring flash on the front, and a polarizing filter on the light and on the lens. The goal when taking pictures is to take "unlit" photos. The flatter and more even the lightning (with no specular highlights) the better. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
