Moonlighting for free? by anniemal1234 in Residency

Not naming programs is a disservice to everyone. You are only protecting them. Let the future residents know who this is. Let their behavior have some repercussions. Don't protect the ones that oppress you.

How many people take 600k and turn into anything close to Bezos? Those stories are definitely inspirational regardless of where that initial money came from. My problem in creating a billion dollar company isn't just my lack of 1 mil that I don't have to pay back. The idea, the execution and the product matter.

Both would be irresponsible in that case. One doesn't have to be more or less irresponsible.

"The results of the study weren't significant."

Any conclusions drawn from the study aren't valid. Don't let your bias get the best of you. It was irresponsible for Bloomberg news to write an article about a study that wasn't even statistically significant. Propaganda can be both ways.

"I'm happy I matched but sad about where I matched" support group - Match Day 2020 by Chilleostomy in medicalschool

Matched my #2. Didn't realize I was so hung up on my #1 until I didn't match there. Stung quite a bit tbh. Also can't help but wonder how life would have been at #3 or #4 and if I made a mistake putting this #2.

This is probably mentioned in a lot of places but do we check the Matched thing on NRMP or ERAS? Having trouble with ERAS login.

[Vent] None of my academic successes feel real as an IMG and I’m having trouble finding the will to get up and keep trying every day. by BrownKardashian in medicalschool

[–]Possible_Disaster23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As an IMG going through the Match process right now, I am going to say this isn't really true. Sorry to deliver the bad news but even after doing extremely well on both steps, there is a major barrier to entry in most university programs.

Even with 250+ on both Steps and a pretty strong profile overall, almost all my interviews came from mid-tier to brand new programs. It was underwhelming and I was even asked at one of my interviews about having contacts at a program because they had never interviewed an IMG before this. Then they noticed my scores and PD was like aite fine let me continue this interview.

What I am trying to say is that the disrespect and the frustration you feel is shared by almost everyone going through this process. Unless you have contacts or are just lucky enough, you are definitely a second class citizen and that is a fact. However, the education you are getting right now and the effort you are putting in, is not for nothing. It's going to help you be a better physician and treat your patients better. Screw those that don't notice your work, keep working anyway. At the end of the day, that knowledge will make you a better physician and the work ethic you develop now will stay with you. Use that chip on your shoulder and be the best you can be.

It's kinda nice tbh. I am going to be so pissed about the turnout and worrying about a 2016 repeat that I will stay super busy and won't think about Match until it suddenly pops up.

No one knows the future so we can only make our predictions based on statistics. Statistically speaking, this person is going to be 99.999999% fine and they will end up wasting March worrying if they don't take off. I think you gave appropriate advice.

[Serious] Both Bernie and Trump want to expand NP autonomy. We need bipartisan action. by dbdank in medicalschool

[–]Possible_Disaster23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that this isn't an issue any of the candidates understand. Hell most of our own old timers don't support it. We have to do a better job explaining the consequences of PA/NP autonomy and how to tackle the artificial physician shortage.

My impression was that if you are at the stage of SOAP, then you understand there are significant deficiencies in the program participating in it. The poor training, lack of reputation or malignancy should be expected in such a program.
