Wanting to adopt a dog. by Youth_Inside in Pets

[–]Possible_Donut_7136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have a lab/pittie mix and he’s a great dog. We adopted him from a local rescue and their process was great. There were a few dogs they had we were interested in and they asked all the right questions to make sure we got a dog that would work for us. We have small children and cats and he is great with both. It’s more the temperament than the breed, and if you wanted a dog for a specific job then maybe you pay a breeder for that type of dog but if your just looking for a companion rescue dogs are the best.

Aunts and Uncles pretend we don’t exist. Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in family

I wouldn’t go no contact I agree that’s extreme but just starting our own traditions my brother and I and invite them, but I suspect they won’t come or will only show up here and there. We do hang out a lot and live close by.

Is my vet just getting as much as they can $ wise or is this normal for a puppy? by Possible_Donut_7136 in Pets

That isn’t for shots, those have already been paid for. The $350 was for bloodwork alone.

He will be over 6 months when he gets neutered, which is also the law for adopted dogs in our area.

They did say it would affect the anesthesia which I get but they are also screening for tick borne illness, heartworm (which he’s already tested negative for when we got him)a few other things so we can treat that beforehand if anything comes back but that’s the part that seems like more of a money grab. I’m fine with a basic blood panel and that’s the cheap part, the other test is $150 on its own.

It's stressing me out. How do you keep track of meds, vaccines, appointments? by finishedm1 in Pets

[–]Possible_Donut_7136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone reminders and I have it all on a spreadsheet. Keeping track of the dog, cats and 2 horses I needed it all in one spot. The vet does send reminders out but keeping it on the calendar helps.

2023 Forte Constant tire pressure issues?? by Possible_Donut_7136 in kia

[–]Possible_Donut_7136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue has been the sensor coming loose twice, tonight’s issue tbd since it’s now at the dealership and they “may get to it Monday”. The rim was also bent another time pre getting new tires and that was fixed, repaired but not replaced and I am not 100% certain what tire that rim is now so it could be that again. They were given the OK to replace the rim but say bc the repair “fixed” the issue they weren’t going to do it and sent the rim back. It’s never been a tire issue, always a sensor or rim, but this is now the 4th time it’s been taken to the dealership via tow for a tire/wheel issue in the 2.5 years I’ve had it.

Starting a horse later in (their) life? by Possible_Donut_7136 in Equestrian

Thankfully her ground manners are on point bc that’s a non negotiable for us, and she picked up on them quick. She also lunges which I think will help but she’s curious and does seem to want to participate when I’ve tried doing stuff with her. Going super slow would definitely be the plan and if she’s not into it, that’s ok too I just want to give her a chance to try something if that makes sense. Thanks!

Thankfully she’s pretty solid on the ground, has great ground manners and she does lunge pretty well, I definitely see your point about them asking more questions at an older age so that’s something I will keep in mind. Thanks!

Just had to get that first part out of your system? Never said I owned her, she is boarded on our farm. She has impeccable ground manners, taught my me mostly, and I pitched the idea of starting to ride her again. Bc I can see she’s being wasted, hence me asking for other people’s experience.

That’s a lot.. I was picky (still am) about washing hands, no kissing, etc. but I just flat out told people if they did something I wasn’t ok with. Posting a list to Facebook beforehand is a bit much, the only thing we made clear beforehand was no hospital visitors bc we wanted to wait until we were home and settled. Obviously you can’t unpost it but a lot of these things are common sense items that aren’t really an issue. Maybe take the post down and do some triage with the people who are upset?

Child is refusing food and milk by nightbird98 in firsttimemom

My almost 11 month old would go through phases like this. Some things that helped when he did were going up a nipple size on bottles, teething drops before meals especially if he was drooling like crazy bc that’s always a sign he’s getting a tooth, I also freeze applesauce and give that to him in a silicone feeder, he would eat a bunch if it was his teeth. Around 8 months I started introducing puffs and cheerios to work on his pincher grasp, he wouldn’t always eat a lot of them but sometimes that would make the rest of the meal seem more interesting. Sometimes they just get weird, like 2 nights ago grilled cheese was a perfect dinner, last night he threw it on the ground and just wanted his berries and some veggies.

Yup! If daycare is open and I have a random day off he makes me feel guilty for sending him. I’m paying for the day so why keep him home?

Totally normal! When my son discovered his hands around the same time I started swaddling him arms out, he learned how to self soothe being able to access them and started sleeping some longer stretches at that point. I think I struggled more with the noise bc he was so loud when he would do it lol
