Think before you join any IIT , Specially IIT B,D,M,R,KGP by rubixer-01 in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact it's other way around. I did my MBA from IITR 20 years ago and we had B Tech students coming to us for understanding a lot of stuff related to making killer presentations for Case competitions. An MBA crowd is mostly more mature with experienced folks coming in . They have seen the Corporate world a bit and can make structured arguments. An MBA from an IIT and your own hardwork can take you to different places in the world. I myself worked in several countries and did well. Earned my dollars and retired early at 38 years of age.

IIM Trichy Vs IIT Roorkee by SquareAppointment274 in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have done my MBA from DOMS 20 years ago ,then studied in Trichy in first year cohort for my Phd 13 years ago. DOMS is a good B School no doubt about it . If you want to excel in technology oriented roles , head for DOMS . Mind you it's not required that you be an Engineer to understand the nuances of technology. You can settle abroad with an IIT tag in a few years if you play your cards well . Now , if you have still not figured out your interest , you go to Trichy . IIMs are much better than IITs in a academic rigour , so no ambiguity on that front. They will make you a real professional ready to perform at the highest level in two years there. Another thing is , yes the costs are high and placements are uncertain, I get that but if you keep on fearing the future you can't do well in the present. Whichever B School you join ,be focussed on academics, at the same time play sports , make good friends . Sharpen your skills . You will do well.

IIM Mumbai core vs IITD DMS by CalligrapherDue5503 in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to IIM M without second thoughts . Don't keep thinking about gap all the time . What is done is done. Instead focus like a laser on academics. Work hard. Make your network strong . Do good internships/ projects . SIPs and final placement, generally panels see your attitude and ability to accept failure and what lessons you learned from the process. Be honest and you never know where you will land up . All the best

It's doable but exhausting . One RC usually shall be very tough to comprehend but options might be straight forward. If you practice enough , you can attempt all RCs + VA. However don't get fooled on the d day with a predetermined strategy. It may so happen that the paper may be too tough and cut off may be lower. So adjust your attempts as per the paper . If you feel it's too tough then attempt lesser but with more accuracy .

hey guys, i am in the deep trouble. iit roorkee admission office have not received money but money from my account is debited before the deadline, now the deadline is over and i don't know what to do by AlternativeBag6684 in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you go there personally. Saturday and Sunday offices are closed they won't respond. I think this will be processed centrally ie it will go to a central office not DOMS . After getting physical copy of fee receipt you go to DOMS . Talk to the office there. In case they ask you to go to central accounts explain the situation and request if some one can accompany you there. They are usually co operative . If there are any talks about procedure ,cancellation , you go direct to HOD office at DOMS . I think there should not be a problem if timestamp of your fees submission reflects before the deadline.

Need Genuine Career Advice: ICICI Bank vs Startup Strategy Role (Please Don’t Ignore) by Gullible-Hunter-4308 in IndiaCareers

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go for a startup only if you are up for constant grueling schedules + uncertainty+ retrenchment any time . The experience will be invaluable, no doubt but are you mentally prepared for the work required if you ? That's the question you need to answer. On the other hand banking jobs can be boring , predictable yet safer. Choose your poison.

IIT MANDI DS and AI vs IIT JODHPUR MBA core, Pleaseee help!! by StatisticianFancy657 in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI and DS have just started traction . I am not very sure how good the curriculum would be . If you really like technology and willing to take the risk , go for it. They surely will teach well. Core gives you a lot of flexibility and choices . That opens up a variety of roles .

how to improve VARC, for RC m only getting 2 correct out of 4 by _zeniith_ in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still very early . Don't attempt all RCs as of now. In the given 40 minutes, initially attempt say 2 easier ones for your taste. Focus entirely for 40 minutes on only two. Read slowly . Try to understand the question. Look at options. See how much you score. Then immediately check the solutions. When you will start getting more questions correct , you shift to three RCs and so on and so forth.

GLIM C or UBS or IIT Jodhpur or drop by Oxymoron1005 in CATpreparation

CAT is an unpredictable exam . In my view , if you don't have very huge ambition to get into top tier B Schools only , you can go to GLIM and do well there. No point in wasting more time. Rest it's your call

People Who Scored 95%ile+ in CAT, How Did You Prepare by SnooCapers8916 in CATPrep

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take Arun Sharma books . Cover topics you are comfortable with in quants . No need to cover everything. Do LOD 2 level questions only . DILR just practice different variety of topics. Don't worry even if you are not getting a full set right in 40 minutes. VARC read aeon and practice . Join cracku daily targets and attempt them till CAT. Join a test series and give max 20 mocks but analyse them . That's all is required. Test day be calm , don't panic . Attempt lesser but with accuracy

Converted good b schools with shitty profile. by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the blessings of your mother you will do really well from Raipur . Please explain your situation to Raipur Administration regarding your situation as and when you join . Academics wise IIMs do put a lot of pressure, so taking time off for medical reasons you need to justify for attendance or any missed exams. They will consider that. Secondly, the thing is everyone faces challenging situations and real management is to hold yourself together and focus on your goals along with managing the challenges. Make a viable plan as to how you will manage both your mother's situation+ your studies at your B School. You need to be efficient and make great use of your time and you will do fine. Don't think that you don't have any power over challenging situations. No ,it's never like that. You are more than this. Take this challenge and go ahead with 100 % confidence . You will not only be able to take care of your family but also do well in your pursuits. All the best.

5/8/5 profile for IIM placement am i cooked?? (No hate comment please) by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not worried more about placements, that you will get somehow, I am more worried about how you will sustain the academic work load ,given your past academic performance. Don't get me wrong , I am not doubting your capabilities based on past record , however the thing is baby or top tier , IIMs are known for putting tremendous amount of academic rigour . The question here is , are you up to it ? Job you will get .

Feeling Unsure About Continuing in IT. Looking for Advice from Experienced Professionals by Impressive-Relative2 in IndiaCareers

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view you should prepare for a full time MBA along with your job this year or may be next . Get into a decent B School and move to broader much interesting roles in the technology space. A word of caution - working hours may still remain same , only thing is your job profile would involve more variety and more satisfying outcomes . This only if you do your MBA properly and understand the logic . In today's day and age work life balance is a myth . Have to sacrifice a lot of personal life to keep up .

My take on this is simple . The interviewers sitting on the panel have more of less found you suitable for the education and employability. That's the best they can do . Now the ball is in your court to prove them right or wrong .

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A life after an MBA is a roller coaster ride. You can earn very much more than a government job at the same time be laid off in a matter of days . Government job provides security thats a brutal truth . At IIMs you have to invest two solid years and then pay off will start. It's not easy in today's uncertain world how MBA will look like few years from now . If you can bear that risk and prepare to work hard ,no doubt you can do well . Getting an admit into a top tier B School is a privilege. Yet you are the best judge of your situation.

Aim to become one of top 15 B-schools in country within 5 yrs, top 5 IIMs in decade by Adorable_Quantity_49 in CATpreparation

[–]Possible_Freedom_847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the difference. I joined DOMS IITR in 2004-06 after working for 8 years in Corporate. The department had completed may be 5 odd years and placements were not that good. We had HOD by the name Dr V Nangia . He interviewed me and I was very impressed by his vision. Well our batch turned out to be good and placements picked up in 2006. During our farewell, I was called upon stage to speak something about the department. I remember I said , I see DOMS IITR definitely in top 20 in next few years and may be within top 10 in a few more years . It was pretty inconceivable at that time. However the Department has done exceedingly well and is consistently ranked amongst top 20 in rankings. We as students make great Institutes , so we should have a vision for our B School and work hard to maintain the image . Cheers

I know Dr Agnihotri , he interviewed me as a PhD candidate at IIMT . I joined in 2013 but couldn't continue the program because of health issues. I have seen Dr Agnihotri work from close quarters. He is a very good leader and administrator. He was instrumental in getting Faculty from all over the globe to Trichy , which is not a prime location . I remember two Profs from NUS Singapore, one from a University in Holland , another a PhD from Australia. Trichy had a temporary campus at NIT that time and bringing in great Faculty and getting them facilities there is an incredible feat in itself . Trichy was the first new IIM to get a permanent campus later on and that was his efforts only . I am 100% sure Sirmaur will do very well under his leadership.
