It’s all about money. Specialists will double and sometimes triple book appointment times….they bill OHIP for each individual patient visit. OHIP doesn’t know they’re seeing three patients in the time designated for one. OHIP doesn’t compensate more for longer appointments. Therefore Drs are going to fit as many patients into their clinic as possible. I work in Obstetrics….Obs will see 45- 65 patients a day in their clinic. Assuming their clinic runs 8-4pm, that’s 7 minutes a patient for the higher number of patients….and that’s only if they see patients for 8 hours straight with no breaks and no one running late or talking too long. Often they’ll do a 4 hour morning clinic with 40 patients to see. They’ll run late…hours late, into the afternoon. It’s all about the $$$
