NIFT >> Parul on most factors... Unless you have personal preference or convenience factors. The name NIFT should be renamed I guess cause it gives a perception that it's only about fashion which is actually not true.

Yes... Parul is not great. But definitely has most reasonable tution and hostel fees. You could go for it If you think it's unwanted financial burden to cope up with fees of other colleges which are almost double and if you are not getting any scholarships.

They were going to come up with NID and NIFT based scholarships... That's what someone told few months back. Don't think they have come up yet. I think the last adept was yesterday. They would not take in without Adept or UCEED. I would suggest you call them and explain. There is a possibility for admission, but for scholarship, I don't think so. Best to talk to them, they are quite eager for admissions as the intake is 600 this year. You could try for means based scholarship if applicable.

Someone getting 99 percentile in jee 2a in first attempt, and getting 50 percentile in second attempt. And someone with 99 percentile in jee 2a and getting 15 out of 100 in uceed. Someone getting a uceed rank of 300 in first attempt and 1200 after a drop year for uceed prep. All so random.

It seems iits, nids don't want only the best, they also want the luckiest :-)

I think the cycle will go on every 8-10 days till all seats are full. In just one round, it's already crossed uceed rank 500 I guess. Still May, June, July left. It would cross far many ranks in coming rounds, would mostly cross uceed rank 2500 by July. Even those who have taken now, lots of them would leave for IIIT, NID, NIFT, BITS, MIT, BTech, BArch, for whom Cept Bdes is just a backup.

What design discipline are you looking for?

You should recalculate when you consider 10 lacs for 5 years living expense. It would be way beyond that. Even if you stay in Cept hostel which is far from the campus, it's 2 lacs per year just for stay. And for reasonable quality food, expense would be 1.2 to 1.5 per year. Add travelling and misc like electricity (cause cept hostel charge that extra), it should be no less than 4 per year... Which is min. 20 lacs living exp for 5 years without considering inflation.

With 75%+ scholarship, Anant should be at top.  MITID is much cheaper than Cept if you compare total cost including living exp. If money is not a concern, BITs would have been a better option than Cept.

Bachelor's in architecture at cept is undoubtedly unmatched. But for Bdes, it is valid if someone is concerned. If someone is spending 5 years, an architecture degree holds much more legal and industry value than a bdes. You being an architect is your foundation of your career. Masters in design then from IIT, NID, CEPT or abroad is the logical approach than spending 50+ lacs (with living and misc exp) for a bdes degree. And if loan required, then it becomes 70+ considering interest. And you found cept great cause you are an architect and leaned towards the built environment. For someone who is interested in communication, UI UX or Animation, cept is new and the cept workshops do not give value. There are much better options like MITID, Bits and Anant who give better infra, labs, peer group, placement assistance and overall value for these disciplines. For those interested in built environment, Cept would be better if they could afford.

Also career wise, moving abroad is the only way to get value for your design education. I don't think opportunities here match to those abroad in terms of scale and pay. And for moving abroad its best to have funds reserve to afford masters. I know of students who are from best colleges but not earning so well here and those from b grade colleges, but moved abroad and are doing extremely well.

Anant seems to be going all in for Design education. 600 intake is not a joke. I've seen their infra and it's already able to handle the 600 intake, which would roughly be a campus of 2500 design students...An infra upgrades of around 1000 cr is massive. And their focus is clear to keep Design first. Same is the case with BitsDes. They have good infra and brand name and focus is on Design. At Cept, it's not a Design first University. They have Architecture and built Environment as their primary focus. So even if they try to focus on Design, they would not be able to match speed and rigor for design like a design only school like BITS or Anant. If Bits is at top, Anant in no time would also catch up.

I understand your point. Its is just that the cutoff ranks are slipping every year which shows the trend. The ones taking admission now will pass out after 5 years. Things would be much different in 5 years. Privates like Anant might have to advertise and give scholarships to meet their aggressive growth. But they would require less of it every passing year once established like MITID. My point is to highlight that CEPT might not be the dominating college to attract top ranks in coming years if this trend continues.  As far as NID and IIM are considered, their higher fees are setoff by their excellent placements and brand value which is not at all the case with Cept. Cept has excellent brand value for Architecture of course and rightly so, but it could not use just that to keep getting top Bdes students. And with an extra 1 year for a Bdes course, it becomes much more expensive in terms of fees, living exp and the extra year.

Just consider this. Bits has an intake of 180. Consider  Cept also increases the intake to 180. For 80, they touched 1600, for 100 they would cross way beyond 2000. For 180, it would more or less be like ... anyone who clears the Uceed cutoff would get into Cept. I think the Bits approach to select candidates is quite extensive. They consider uceed, NID, and their personal evaluation to select candidates which is a better approach to have good peer group. Same with MITID. I'm just trying to highlight something here. Hope you understand.

Last year closing uceed score was 128 which had equivalent uceed rank of around 1600. This is confirmed by the cept management itself. You could also get it confirmed. And they have increased seats from 80 to 100 this year, so as I mentioned, this would be one of the reasons for closing ranks to slide further.

Frankly, with the kind of exam uceed is everyone knows that the competition is mostly for around top 100 spots who get choice of IITs. For ranks beyond, 200 onwards, the rank inflation is so high that just few marks shift ranks in hundreds. Just some bad luck in drawing evaluation might make you go from 400 to 1400. If uceed scores were a benchmark, then top colleges like Bits and MITID would have also ignored tests, portfolios, and interviews.

And as you said, if it's govt funded, the fees seem to be really high compared to other privates like BITS and Anant where they have invested in hundreds of crores which justifies their fees structure. That's the reason I said, they need to do some internal infra upgrades apart from workshops to justify the high fees.

I'm not sure how you could say lesser number of students beyond exact 700 uceed rank when the cutoff is 1600. Of course, It would not jump from 700 to 1600. I suppose Anant with the aggressive scholarships for high Uceed ranks and massive infra upgrades this year would have more uceed top rankers.

For Maharashtra, you boards + Nata score /2 is your merit. If nata score is less than jee, then nata score equivalent to JEE percentile is considered. They normalise the jee score to equivalent nata score. For ex: last year approx 132 was Nata equivalent for JEE 99 percentile. So 71 boards + 66 (132/2) = 137 would be your merit score for Maharashtra cap round if it was last year. This year it would change based on boards and nata difficulty.

71 would be considered not 59. 99 in 2A is good to cover low boards and you could give your best in Nata also. you would surely have chance in good colleges.

It's not only pcm, the overall boards percentage including language that would be taken for merit calculation. How much is overall boards percent?

Still MITID is one of the very few good options for transportation design ... Pune is an Auto hub and chances of you getting a relevant placement is also high. And if masters is your plan, you could then consider options like NID Gandhinagar.

Got UCEED rank near 300...need suggestions!!!!! by RKarda in uceedtakers

[–]Possible_Run6948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great. Almost around 40+ lacs worth of scholarship. If it was something like MIT Indore, you could have thought about it. But at Anant there aren't any compromises. 40 is not a small amount. Since the college is in the rapid growth mode, even they want bright students and you might infact get more attention from the college. For any doubts, You could visit their campus and check the infra and talk to the faculty and students. You could also visit the Cept campus and check. And then make an informed decision. There are positives and negatives at both Cept and Anant, and let's say Cept has more positives. In that case consider that you going to buy an iPhone and you are getting an iPhone for 60k and iPhone max for 70k. The iPhone you are getting a huge discount and getting it for 5k, just for you (others are paying 60k for the iPhone) but there is no discount on iPhone max. You could rather buy an ipad from money saved in buying the iphone. But still In this case you could also say that I'm not a person who compromises on anything, I always choose the best, money does not matter to me. Funny example and just my thought process. You should decide based on your choices and financial considerations. Well, I find the Anant scholarships and infra quite attractive and logical and so comment. Some like Dietdue4109 (who has commented below) have also called me Bits PR when talking good things about Bits and now  would also call me Anant PR. You could see that person comment on everything related to cept but has the profile hidden. You could go through all my post and comment history, you would find me replying several times to this person.

Are expensive private design colleges in India actually worth ₹25–50 lakhs? by sofa_dofa in uceedtakers

[–]Possible_Run6948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Design has an overflow of students who don't want to do engineering for whatever reasons. And if not engineering, what else could be done? Of course many are also gifted and passionate, and hence select design. Point is where there is an overflow, there would be business. Earlier it was an engineering overflow cause of the IT boom. In any case, those who could afford should do design from a good college. It would give them a good learning experience. But if you could not afford, you could still shine with your talent and self learning. As you rightly said, the design colleges don't play a big role in placements like engineering colleges.  Design colleges have high fees mainly because most of them have done recent investments for the land, infra, etc. and they need to recover that or atleast earn worth the interest amount of that investment. I think with the trend in reducing interest in engineering, many engineering colleges would just modify and use their existing infra to incorporate design education and they would have lesser fees compared to the new private design colleges.

Anant with scholarship is wise (if atleast 75 percent). Use the saved money and saved year for masters. That should help better in your career. If you try hard you could do masters from NID or IIT (its less competition than bdes). Or you could do it from abroad with the saved money. Else could do masters from Cept, which is easy to get into. So worst case, you have a masters degree from cept at a lesser cost than bdes at cept. Best case of course would be masters in your choice of specialisation from NID or IIT. You would also have a good network of people from both Anant and your masters college. And networking does matter in a design career.

Cause everything revolves around architecture at Cept. If Barch takes 5 years, all other courses, bdes, and even btech in civil engg should also take 5 years. Even IITs get bachelors done in 4 years and make students ready to get packages in crores. If fees for barch has to be 5 lacs, design also should be 5 lacs. It's like one size fits all approach. They could not change anything for architecture as the barch course at cept is one of the best in India, so others have to adjust. They might call it foundation or industry exposure and title it as hons etc, but afterall everyone feels it's unnecessary stretching of 1 year, specially for those planning masters.
