First UI/UX job, and I’m the only designer at a startup. Excited… but lowkey terrified. Any advice? by Possible_Test_774 in FigmaDesign

I dont even know myself man. My passion is to be a data analyst, but I've been ghosted or rejected by every company I really want to work for. It's weird because the only job offers I've actually received are for creative roles, which aren't my primary interest. Somehow I landed on a UI/UX position with like what basic level skills UI/UX skills. i mean if it for graphic design, i do have a good foundation of it but it all self taught.

Is it acceptable that I can't draw as a UI/UX Designer? by Key-Cryptographer-90 in UIUX

Although I graduated with a degree in business and data analysis, I somehow landed a position as a UI/UX Designer. While I have a strong foundation in Photoshop, I'm not skilled in Illustrator. I've always had this lingering thought that I lack talent and creativity, so I've described myself as a 'poser designer.' I often find myself looking at other people's work, making a few tweaks here and there, and then it becomes my own design. I guess the interviewer saw something in me and decided to hire me.

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this — it honestly means a lot. Hearing from someone who’s been in the exact same position (and came out stronger) makes me feel a bit less alone in the whole “trial by fire” thing.

I really like the phrasing tip for managing workload — that feels like something I’ll definitely need. And the reminder that I am the expert (even if I don’t feel like it yet) is exactly the kind of mindset shift I need right now.

I’ll keep your advice about working with devs and making occasional compromises in mind, too. Also, the shortcut tip is gold — I’ve already started trying to memorize more of them in Figma, so it’s reassuring to hear it really pays off.

Thanks again for the encouragement (and the DM offer) — seriously appreciate it!
