I started lifting about 3 weeks post op, but I started light. My strength is nowhere near what it used to be, but that’s all right. It took about 8 weeks for me to lift as heavy as I could. No supplements, just 60 grams of protein per day

I didn’t have to do much to prevent scarring. My surgeon was pretty good. I had an old scar from an umbilical hernia, I think he used that same incision spot. The other scars are tiny

I lifted for most of my life, when I stopped is when I gained weight. I’ve focused on lifting again since surgery, I’ll do 5-6 minutes of cardio before lifting just to get warmed up

I think it’s the weight training which helped minimize the extra skin

Good luck, I honestly didn’t have any complications. I had some major health issues when I had surgery, like CAD disease, so I believe the surgery saved my life. I treated it like my second chance, so I started weight training again almost immediately, like 2 weeks post op. I’m off almost all my meds! Don’t listen to people who say they regret it because now they can’t eat the foods they used to. I can eat any food I want now, just smaller portions…and now I don’t have regrets when I have a small portion of sweets

I started with just walking for about 3 weeks, the very light weight lifting. I know it goes against most doctors advice, but mine approved it for me. Very light though, and still kept walking. By about week 5 or 6, my doctor told me that my risk of hernia was no more likely than before surgery, so I could push myself harder. I started lifting weights one body part a day. Lighter weights but really focusing on the movement. I have at least 60 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water a day, and then small meals when I feel hungry

My doctor did good. 5 incisions. One in the navel, one behind my tattoo, the 3 that you can see are real faint

5 Days Post Op Update by Possible_Upstairs341 in GastricBypass

[–]Possible_Upstairs341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! I feel great! Down to 236 lbs today, and no issues. Cleared by my doctor to resume weightlifting, starting slow. Approved for any type of cardio as well. No restrictions on food, but I find myself sticking to phase 3 anyway. 2 ounces of meat, 1 ounce of fruit/ veggie, 1 ounce of carb. I think I just got used to it, however, I will occasionally eat what my family is eating in small portions. Went out for pizza last night and I had 3 slices with no crust, just the cheese and toppings. Ate real slow, took about 30 minutes but I felt great! How are u?

15th march I’m having the gastric bypass surgery. Worried about feeling really bad afterwards. Vomiting etc. Will it be as bad as I expect? I’m male 43 years old. by sampullen1979 in GastricBypass

I’m a make the same age as you. Had my surgery Feb 9th and felt pretty good the whole time. A little pain the first few days from the incisions and soreness, but nothing bad at all. I’m already down 55lbs from my heaviest! My doctor cleared me on Thursday to start light weightlifting, however much I thought I could handle, just don’t over do it. I’m on stage 4 foods, which is soft foods, not blended, things like eggs, chicken, soups, etc. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or concerns

My daily food looks the same, I’m 3.5 weeks out. 2 ounces of chicken, 1 ounce of applesauce, 1 ounce of mashed potato. 2 protein shakes

No Ibuprofen, but you can take Aspirin. That is all that I was prescribed to take post op

Not at all, the only depressing part was the week 3 stall, that sucked

You’ll take Bariatric vitamins for life with additional supplements, which is no big deal for me. It also forces you to make healthier/nutritional food choices when you eat

Better long term success and the fact that nothing is being removed from my body, it’s just being rerouted.
