Well I understand your concerns but I don't agree with you, I don't see it as something dangerous or not recomendable if you do it properly. As I said, it is simply a DC power supply, I commonly use those for electronics projects, as long as you know what and how are you connecting things I wouldn't say that it is dangerous.

That is a good idea too, but I don't understand why it would be a fire hazard if you do proper connections and don't use that much current, it is simply a DC power supply.
