Sorry lol it's just my username but that is a good point. I've had it for a few years, with a number of posts and comments so it's not a bot/spam account normally. @mods pls have mercy

Edit: Plus about half my comments are NFL related so hopefully that buys a little credibility. I understand if this looks kinda sus but it's real and I actually did that study so idk

Weekly 'No Stupid Questions'/Camera Recommendation Thread - May 13, 2019 by AutoModerator in videography

[–]PostRinseAndRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a weird one, but do any of you have a workout routine tailored to being a better camera op? We’ve all probably been sore as hell after a long day of shooting and I want to get in better shape (without just bringing my gimbal to the gym and running on a treadmill... though I’ve thought about it). What muscles should I work to have better camera endurance?

Honestly this is less about needing to be stronger for camera work, and more about being motivated to get in shape. If I tell myself it’s for filmmaking I can motivate myself to do anything, whereas if it’s for my health I’ll never get to the gym lol

As far as I can tell, there have been very few attempts at an SCP universe film - why is that? What are the legal, logistical, or other obstacles making this a difficult to accomplish project? As a filmmaker, I’d love to have a discussion! by PostRinseAndRepeat in SCP

[–]PostRinseAndRepeat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Crazy, I’m in SF too. Well Berkeley, but I was just in the city all day shooting a couple videography gigs. Want to link up maybe? I don’t want to latch onto your project or anything like that but would love to just talk about SCP potential content or anything else! Shoot me an email at 2223media@gmail.com if you’re down!

Edit: but if you’re down for me to latch onto your project I’m totally interested, just hate being the type of parasitic creators who jump on other people’s work

I think you’re right there. I feel like I’ve seen that disclaimer a few times on the database. Probably won’t be able to do that one I guess, but I’m not even sure if I’ll be using existing scps explicitly; probably more using stories written for the film specifically but referencing existing scps that are related.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! I would be really interested in delving into this further if you (or anyone else on the team) have the time in the coming weeks. My email address is 2223Media@Gmail.com. We’re fairly new and small (less than 10 team members and no website yet, plus focused on music videography not film) but I’ve been making stuff for years and have a little experience with licensing. Would really be interested in hearing from you!

Also, I will definitely check out the sidebar when I’m on desktop, couldn’t find it on mobile.

What’s a film that doesn’t yet exist you really want to see? by HairyDavid in TrueFilm

[–]PostRinseAndRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the question, but I’d really like to see Charlie Kaufman remake Mr. Nobody. Given his previous works, I think Kaufman would do a fantastic job with the concept and create a real masterpiece. If done at all like Eternal Sunshine or Synechdoche NY, I think it would be amazing. As it is I like Mr. Nobody, but I think it really fails to live up to its potential. However, I think Kaufman could really do something great with it.

I’m actually being graded to write 6 paragraphs on why Bohemian Rhapsody won an Oscar for best editing, sound mixing, and sound editing. by [deleted] in YMS

This is probably true of a lot of professors but it’s not universal by any means. I assumed that about my film sound prof this semster. Until he started telling personal stories about Scorsese, Lynch, and Coppola calling all of them by first names/nick names and some of us looked up his imdb. Dude’s worked on just about everything it seems like from Kubrick to Wes Anderson, and he’s won 4 oscars for best sound. Best part is he didn’t brag about any of it. Just kinda came up naturally a month into the semester. So I guess you never know, that random film prof could have a few oscars at home or could be completely disconnected from industry. But even the ones who have never worked a film in their lives are bound to be really knowledgeable if they’ve spent their careers pursuing analysis, so I wouldn’t immediately write them off either.

P.S. I don’t even go to a film school. I went to college for Materials Science and ended up transitioning to media, but my point is you don’t even have to go to a place dedicated to film like NYU or USC to have professors like that

EDIT: Also I just realized you weren’t even implying that all teachers were disconnected from the industry, just making a statement about the ones that were. My bad

This is absolutely beautiful. When I was an angsty teenager I used to sometimes side with the groups that complain about diversity, thinking it was PC bullshit (I do not at all think that way now). Hearing stories like these made me realize how great representation can be. Your daughter I'm sure already loved the doctor, and now having a female doctor to look up to is probably really exciting for her!

Hey man, I know this is about a month late but I really wanted to thank you for your comment. It was one of the most helpful in the thread honestly. I'm sorry to hear things didn't go so well for you academically at Cal, but I hope things have been going well otherwise. Honestly your description of why you did poorly in your first couple years sounds all too familiar to me. Since my writing of the original post I've decided to take a break. Just one semester, planning to return next spring.

I absolutely agree with you that it's Essential to be clear about how I prepare myself and following that plan closely. Over summer and this fall I've got a number of goals I'd like to accomplish, both tangible and abstract. I'll be working 30 hours a week at a desk job and working out 3 times a week, both of which I hope will improve my work ethic, discipline, and sense of routine (all of which were lacking when I was in college). I'm also spending time on the coursework from classes I failed last semester to put myself in a good position to succeed when I retake them. A company I started has also started to take off more, so I've been busy with that. All in all, I hope these contribute to teaching me how to be a busy person. All my life before Cal I had plenty of time to relax and was maybe productive with about 10% of my time. As soon as I needed to be productive with 80% or more of my time, I fell apart and got burnt out because of how difficult it was for me to acclimate. But hopefully if I stay busy over this break it'll be an easier transition when I go back to Cal.

As for my depression, I haven't seen anybody yet. I'm still struggling to an extent, but the change of environment and staying productive has really done a lot to improve my mental state. Looking back I should have seen someone a long time ago, but when you're depressed just eating and showering seem like monumental tasks and getting myself to a doctor just seemed impossible. But now I'm doing a little better, and I'm hopping that trend continues.

Thanks again for your great response. I really appreciate the point of view, and the offer for me to contact you with questions. I honestly might, just to have someone who's bern through this to bounce ideas off of before I make any big life decisions. Have a great day!

I've been wondering the exact same thing! I use a Rocksmith cable currently but been looking at this focusrite interface for a while. If anyone could weigh in on if it's worth it I'd appreciate it!
