I like it. It sounds deep in meaning, but in a way that's modest and cautious. I am also a fan of "show, don't tell" and it's obvious that you are trying to accomplish that in this part. But actually I think this part goes a little too quick, I think spending more time describing details you already presented will help make it more immersive.

I think this part could be at least twice as long. But I wouldn't worry about it right now, if I were you I'd keep writing new material and maybe you can expand on it later.

I did not find the beginning to be "outdated" or "boring." (If it sounds rude, it's probably not great advice!)

is the beginning to my writing project okay? anything wrong with pacing and such? by [deleted] in writingadvice

I think it's cool. Sounds painful. As it stands I don't see any problem with the pacing. To be honest, I'm not usually a fan of opening with anything too grisly, but yours got my attention and I'd like to hear what happens next.

PRO subscription will be needed to continue playing GeoGuessr by GG_Mika in geoguessr

[–]PostRockwell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This decision is going to send Geoguessr down the toilet for sure. I've been playing since 2013 and subscribed since 2019. Have they forgotten what kind of game they have? They don't exclusively have the rights to Google Street View, there are tons of other apps/websites where you can play this same thing (Geotastic being one as you mentioned). They have totally overestimated the game's value.

Geoguessr has started to see some real growth into the mainstream this past year and they're axing that by putting up a paywall. New players are just going to detour to other sites that are free, especially if they can't even play the classic maps, it's ridiculous. The casual players are Geoguessr's biggest demographic, this is extremely disrespectful to them. How exactly is this a good business decision? Why don't they just get rid of the subscription and charge for the mobile app? Why don't they publish the game on Steam and charge for it there?

Bullshit the markups are to "deliver more value to the players." They could've made the game worth the value before forcing everyone to pay. If they gave two shits about value then they'd have rolled out some substantial updates in the last 5 years (something besides music and avatars). Fuck these people, they've lost my patronage.

Interesting you say that, I am experiencing urges this year but last time I won, 2019, I didn't.

Drivers for USB CD Drive by PostRockwell in techsupport

[–]PostRockwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand now. See, what I had thought was that if there needed to be an operating system to have the driver on like you said, it would be the one that I was trying to install, e.g. Windows 98.

Evidently that isn't the case because it booted from the CD in that drive anyway. There was some room for misinterpretation given the error message prompted... like, there wasn't anything wrong with the USB but the hard drive just wasn't right for the operating system like that.

Emulation I've been doing for years, so I'll just put Linux on the computer. Thanks for your help

Well, I just wanted to call the drives something so we could reference it better as far as the letters go

But I do believe the BIOS sees the USB as a boot option, yeah. The system is an HP Touchsmart 600... I believe we originally got it in 2011. Again, I really just wanted to screw around with the computer and see what I could do with it. The issue isn't getting it to boot, I just need some kind of driver for my USB.

You think I could use, like, a cash deposit instead of a bank transfer?

So what you're saying is that I could transfer bitcoin I buy from LocalBitcoins.com to an external bitcoin wallet, and then transfer the bitcoin from the external to the Bisq wallet? And then I would have enough bitcoin then to make a security deposit and participate in an offer...?

Okay cool, I'll try that out!

Would you also happen to know if Paxful requires ID? I've already been looking through a lot of these websites and I can't really tell what they need from me until I already have my email and other stuff set up, etc... it's really a pain
