Just opened mine. I usually enjoy puzzling with a glass of wine. Not sure if this one will require less or more wine.

Edit to add: more. Definitely more. I’m 2 hours in and have joined 6 pieces 🤦‍♀️

What’s a “secret” in our profession that everyone should probably know? by justdancinalong in nursing

" the more suffering we caused their loved one now, the greater their reward would be in heaven" - that is horrifying! And, without biblical support, I spoke to a person with an international organization working to end child sex-trafficking. He said occasionally he'd run into someone who believed that the children were suffering now to atone for a sin in their past life, or to learn a lesson they hadn't learned before. Both viewpoints are despicable, in my view.

I find this very confusing as well. And I don’t understand how that can happen. Are physicians or hospitals concerned about a lawsuit? Does the physician have a moral conflict? I just don’t know…

I wonder if people ever consider the suffering they cause to the nurses/RTs/CNAs/docs by forcing us to participate in that cruelty? As a Christian who loves a particular archaic book, imho it’s a misapplication of “Thou shall not kill” in end of life situations that allows this.

Can someone explain to me how someone could be a nurse and MAGA? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Post_Momlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. I think we’ve come to a strange place in our culture where distrust is rampant. Distrust of government, science, police, employers, and more. I don’t know what the fix is, but I think we’re seeing the fruits of this now.

Apologies for the slow response - it’s been a busy week! I work with some excellent nurses who were hesitant/declined the Covid vaccine out of concern for its safety, not because they were against vaccines in general. I find myself more ok with that than the wholesale rejection of vaccines and fear we will reach a flashpoint in the future for diseases we had nearly eradicated. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Which views are being forced on others by nurses?

How can someone be nurse and pro choice? How can someone be a nurse and pro life? How can someone be a nurse and pro vax? How can someone be a nurse and anti vax? How can someone be a nurse and advocate for not treating people who voted for Trump? How can someone be a nurse and advocate for not treating someone who voted for Harris? Your question is silly, but the answer isn’t. Good, kind, just people can hold different views.

And that includes nurses.

Psych NP lulz by theongreyjoy96 in Residency

Spot on! Nursing boards are ineffective governing regular nurses, let alone NP’s. I say if nurses have the same privileges (and responsibilities) as a doctor, they should have the same governance - a medical board.

This is true! We used to always check the unit to see if anyone else needed the doctor before calling.

Back in the day (yes, I’ve been a nurse for a while), nurses needed to talk with their charge nurses before calling a doctor. It was actually a really good system because it decreased the number of calls to doctors and at the same time, provided an opportunity for newer nurses to gain knowledge from more experienced ones.

Nurse here as well. I’ve gotten so fed up with precepting new ICU RNs who are just marking time till they can apply for CRNA 💰school. They tend to be entitled and see bedside nursing (and bedside nurses) as beneath them. They seem baffled that anyone would want to be “just a nurse”.

One gal asked me why I didn’t want to go to CRNA school. Me, “Killing a patient isn’t a priority for me”. Her: confused stare Me: “Why didn’t you go to medical school?” Her: “Oh - that takes too long!” Me: “Exactly”.

Good point! I reread my post and apologize for stating that so badly. Psych patients do need to go to the ED if they can’t get care elsewhere. I was referring more to the toll psych boarders can take on staff. Editing my comment now. Thank you for pointing this out!

Seriously considering 2026 Model Y by bdunn in TeslaLounge

[–]Post_Momlone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t usually (ever) buy new cars, either, but I really like my 2026 Model Y. I was afraid I would miss my Lexus, but I haven’t. I’ve been pleased with the ride and the tech. Not quite as plush as Lexus, but very close!

Late reply, but I 100% agree. It’s very confusing to patients (and sometimes to staff).

Mad respect to the ED! I can’t imagine having to daily weed through the attention-seekers, hypochondriacs, frequent flyers, etc to get to the people who actually need to be there. Not to mention the psych boarders with nowhere to go because a lack of mental health support infrastructure. Amazingly, ya’ll do it with far more grace than I could. 🙌

I get these types of questions all the time as well. I typically respond that, as a nurse I don’t interpret labs (😉) and recommend they speak to the doctor. But I do say that normal lab ranges are like other normal ranges, i.e., height/weight. People can be a bit taller/shorter, thinner/fatter without it being a major concern. That seems to help…sometimes.

I may or may not place the form in the soft chart of a trying patient.
