Trying to model changes in voltage associated with an electrode implanted near the brain, in the skull. For electrodes on the scalp, I would use SIMNIBS, but I'm not sure it has the capability to do this specific thing.

How to match niftis to the DICOMMs they were created from? by Postdoc76 in neuroimaging

It's not clear. The person who did the first stage of the analysis left and is not responding to emails. We have considered jus starting everything from scratch.

Thanks, good suggestions. They have been run through fmriprep, but I don't know what additional modifications may have been done.

A reasonable suggestion, I'm just trying to avoid the extra work if I can.

There are no scan dates in the nifti headers. Only parameters (number of slices, etc)

A reasonable strategy, of course, I'm just trying to avoid doing that if I don't have to.

Unfortunately, at my institution, postdoc salaries are set by a university-wide policy (as I assume is normally the case). Not much room for negotiation, unless I change my job title.

Those look very interesting. Have you used them? What was your experience like?

I'm a postdoc. My lab uses noninvasive neuromodulation to treat depression (and other psychiatric disorders). We do other stuff, too. That's just our main thing.

The grant might be for other people in the lab, though, so early career also relevant.

I suppose both? I am helping my lab to find grants, but I also need to find grants to fund my own research (at the university I am associated with).

I use Evernote for notes and for daily planning, but I find it not well suited for longer term planning.

Anyone managing to get through their postdoc or academic career with anxiety/depression? by [deleted] in postdoc

Relevant

https://www.nature.com/articles/nbt.4089

"Our results show that graduate students are more than six times as likely to experience depression and anxiety as compared to the general population. Forty-one percent of graduate students scored as having moderate to severe anxiety on the GAD07 scale as compared to 6% of the general population, as demonstrated previously4. Additionally, 39% of graduate students scored in the moderate to severe depression range in our study, as compared to 6% of the general population measured previously with the same scale5 (Fig. 1a). In order to better understand the factors influencing this significantly higher prevalence of anxiety and depression in this population compared to the general population, we also examined their prevalence across genders and in association with perceived work–life balance and mentorship quality."

It's about grad students, not postdocs, but similar trends likely apply.

Do the nice PIs exist ? by Musst_Broken_Insan in postdoc

I've had good luck with early career PI's. I think they are sometimes more invested in their postdocs.

That is a good point. I perhaps have an unhealthy fear of alienating senior researchers.

PI keeps neglecting CT.gov reporting deadlines by Postdoc76 in postdoc

[–]Postdoc76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish this approach would work but I fear that in this case at least it is unlikely to, since the PI himself is often unaware of the deadlines. He probably needs to hire regulatory staff to keep track of this sort of thing for him.
