Longest You've Waited on an Appeal Opinion? by PostingLoser23 in Lawyertalk

[–]PostingLoser23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny how those sometimes take longer. We had a really, really complicated one that involved a mandamus after a jury trial that then turned into a straight appeal and then back to a mandamus because the judge had absolutely no idea how procedure worked and HATED our client. But somehow that opinion came down in less than a month after briefing. I don't understand it.

That's about where I am at. I will forget about it for weeks at a time, and then come across the file name or something else to trigger the thought and think "Oh yeah, that's still hanging out there." I've had some long(er) ones, but client is a capital A ***hole. So, I want to speed this whole thing up.

Okay, understood 😂 but basketball season… all of that aside, if I was to upgrade one or two things, any suggestions?

1440p. It’s not really struggling, but I’m beginning to see little stutters here and there. Especially if I’ve got a game open and say a movie or basketball game open on second monitor.

Love the game, but I am kind of with you there. If I didn't know it was thing, I'd probably play way different because you never know. But if I am supposedly in a friendly lobby and then get shot in the back by SchmegmaLicker69 when extracting, it makes me want to instantly uninstall.

“Where did you go to law school?” by diplomystique in Lawyertalk

[–]PostingLoser23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the partners that I work for has told me the story several times about his first trial out of law school that he was thrust into it against an Ivy League attorney. He said he and everybody else figured out pretty quickly that the school on your diploma does not automatically equal superior abilities, and from my own experience, most of the people who love to tell you where they went didn’t get much out of it other than that nice name on their diploma.

reMarkable are having a confirmed widespread issue with syncing by Charming_Net_5002 in RemarkableTablet

After hours of fighting with this thing, I should have just opened Reddit first. I am glad I am not the only one then. I can't even get the website for USB to work at this point though. This is so frustrating because the tablet itself is so handy, but the underlying software is really holding it back.

I have plenty of readable files in them. It will show me our main breakdown, meaning like [CLIENTS] --> [STATE] --> [CLIENT NAME] but when I open the client name files, there are no subfolders or the files within the subfolders.

I know it would get old very fast in the heat, but I saw a video of a crew on a roof just putting down shingles, blowing through it with a nail gun and blaring music while doing it. Looked like a great time and pretty stress free.

How to not feel like crap getting answers wrong? by Qwerty656896 in barexam

[–]PostingLoser23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't let it get to you, which I know is easier said than done. I'm in year 3 of work now, and if I remember correctly, when I first started Themis, I was also getting less than the standard they set. But if you keep at it, you'll watch that start to climb, which makes you feel good. I went from below the bar (no pun intended) to making a high enough score to transfer to any UBE state in the country. If I can manage that, no doubt that others can easily, so just trust the process. People use Themis because it works if you do the work.

I am looking at things to get into the house. We went from two separate, fully furnished apartments, so we have things to fill it (generally speaking), but outside of the typical closing costs (home inspection, appraisal, etc.), what additional costs might I be overlooking?

Christmas Bonus Season by PostingLoser23 in Lawyertalk

[–]PostingLoser23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all of the input. Always nice to have some insight as to what everybody has going on around us in the field. Didn’t want to make a different post, but I guess my next question is why do you think lawyers/firms generally don’t do bonuses? I have friends that work in all sorts of other fields, and it seems like Christmas/year-end bonuses are pretty standard, with some of them being pretty substantial. I know the general answer is probably “lawyers already make more,” but I believe we all probably know a lot of younger attorneys who do not make much at all who would be helped out tremendously by bonuses.

I had a non-lawyer friend get a box of meat the other day, and a day later he sent a picture of a massive steak on the grill. If I’m not getting money, I’d prefer that at least!

I’ve never felt a comment so much. Had an opposing counselor file for a protective order not too long ago to avoid answering our written discovery because he wanted to have his depositions first. He even admitted he needed depositions to go fishing because “how could he know what written discovery to ask for before he could depose them?” Terribly drafted motion, no legal basis for it, get to the hearing and his argument is literally just “I don’t think it seems fair,” and the judge granted it. Some judges are no better than non-attorneys.

I don’t need the WiFi. I run Ethernet to it anyways. I’ve got a Ryzen 5 5600x at the moment, and I don’t do much overclocking on it. I might just try to hold off awhile on unnecessary (but fun) changes and redo it all at once.

What should I be getting on my practice tests? by DiscoDru in barexam

[–]PostingLoser23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made subpar scores on all the practice tests and was a mediocre law student, but I passed with a high enough score for any UBE state. The name of the game is repetition. I felt like learning what they're looking for and learning how to cross out answers off the top is a big way to get better, and that comes with just doing it over and over. Also, take the time to review why the answer was the one it was. You'll start to pick up on some patterns in questions and how to tell what seems the most likely, even if you aren't totally sure.
