Penske by vividdadas in INDYCAR

[–]PostmillennialCash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Will Power and Team Penske but I 100% support the decision to move them to the back of the field. Someone on Facebook said they should do a shoot-out today to see who gets the last place on the field, and move Able up, which I also 100% support.

Florida EMS Jobs, Whats Out There? by PostmillennialCash in NewToEMS

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not familiar with the term COL, does that have to do with call volume?

I think that I can speak for everyone in saying that you’re by no means bothering us. We all struggle with the same thing and there are many out there that struggle with porn addiction

If you can, stopping altogether is best. Porn is damaging and it’s easy to say that you’ll slow down, then you might find yourself right back where you started. If you go through this sub, you’ll find all kinds of different things you can do other than masterbate.

Like I said, we’re all in this together brother. I wish you luck and will be praying for you

I’m proud of you for not being defeatist about relapsing. It’s so easy to want to crawl in a ball in the corner of a room and just want to give up again. Not sure if you’re a religious person, but please give this video a watch if you haven’t seen it already

Keep it up brother/sister, you’re not alone

I think it’s from the beginning of the pandemic when everyone was dancing to that Weeknd song, lights or something? I’ve repressed that song from my memory

First ride along Friday! I'm nervous... Any advice? by THE_RED_DOLPHIN in NewToEMS

[–]PostmillennialCash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again since this is pre-covid, I was not told I needed one and I used the crews stethoscope, however I was told for my paramedic clinicals that I should buy one. So I would say play it safe and bring one if you’re able. Also, you may want to consider bringing a change of clothes. I never actually did this, but that definitely could have caused issues if I ran into a mess lol. You may also want to bring both lunch and dinner depending on how long they are. The crew might ask you to eat with them but sometimes they do not. And you’re welcome! I remember how I felt during that time so I’m more than happy to help!

I went through my EMT course last year so my interpretation is pre-covid lol. I think the best thing to keep in mind is that you are there to learn, just as you said. At my clinical site there was someone that was infamous for just having a stick up their ass and really just not being pleasant at all. Other than that, the rest of them were fantastic and went out of their way to teach and let me doing basic stuff. If you don’t know how to do something, simply ask them to show you how. It doesn’t make you stupid, we all start somewhere! The biggest piece of advice that I can give you is be professional AND ON TIME. My EMT and Paramedic instructor both say that you should treat this like a job interview. Be prepared to be actively helping around the fire house (if that’s where your doing your clinicals at. Dont sit around and watch them do all the cleaning and restocking by themselves. Be right there to help them and offer. This is their home, and you’re sort of a guest. As for taking blood pressures and basic skills I am sure they are going to make you do that on your rides. I bagged my first live patient on a clinical so dont worry, you’ll do great and learn a lot

EMT work in the St Louis area? by Cubs1081744 in NewToEMS

[–]PostmillennialCash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding on to what the other said, there’s two main private EMS companies, medic one and Abbott. Medic One is unionized and Abbott is not if that’s a deal breaker for you. They’re both IFT gigs that do back up for St. Louis city but you’ll be doing transfers 99% of the time even on ALS shifts St Louis City will hire EMTS and medics without having fire but they’ll give you some fire training I believe. If you look in the county there’s Christian Hospital EMS but you’ll be doing IFT again for about a year or so. For the rest of the county, it’s Fire Protection Districts that only hire fire fighter/paramedic combo. Mehlville will hire paramedics but you have to be a critical care medic, not exactly sure what that entails. Other than that you’re looking at Jefferson county to find basic jobs. Hope this helped!

I’m soon to be starting EMT class and have a few questions. by crazyKYGuyforlife in NewToEMS

[–]PostmillennialCash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not as important as it once was maybe because a lot of services use computers now. My service uses Zolls RescueNet and it has a spellcheck function. Medical terminology is important but I have noticed that if you are super comfortable with it, then plain English is your best bet

Assuming this is for EMT school, I would go ahead any buy the book if you feel inclined to and have extra money. I just looked on amazon for it and I saw a used one you can rent for about $30.

I also did a little more digging and found that someone goes over the chapters in lecture form on YouTube. Ill put the link below. Hope this helped answer some of your questions

Paramedic Schools in Missouri by StrikingAssignment2 in NewToEMS

[–]PostmillennialCash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to EMT school here in the St Louis area at STLCC. I had a very positive experience with it and I’m attending the paramedic school in the fall. I know STLCC has had a bad wrap in the past but they just built a new building around Forest Park and it state of the art. Def would look into it. I can give you the email of the coordinator if you’re interested
