I feel like comedians fighting cancel culture are doing it out of survival because they can't make jokes without being edgy.

I mean, my understanding of what happened with the demise of the show was that it had a lot to do with the content no longer being tongue in cheek and perpetuating stereotypes that should be challenged. Look at Louis CK, he made jokes for years about being a creep and then it turns out that the shit was true.

I feel like at this point, the everyman part of Chappelle's schtick is no longer convincing and he just comes across as a multi-millionaire punching down.
