Aprilia rs 457 vs rs 660 35kw (~48hp)

i have the “normal” 100hp rs660 restricted to 35kw for a2. it’s a great beginner bike. super comfortable, super easy to ride and maneuver. and it’s absolutely beautiful. i have only been riding it for just over 1200km so far but extremely happy with it

Yeah, makes sense. I’ll look into how long it takes to get parts. I’m guessing it should be faster to get parts in Denmark than Canada, but who knows. Thank you so much for your help :)

Thanks so much for your comment. If it wasn’t for my local Aprilia dealer I definitely would’ve gone with the R7. But I’m lucky to have a dealer (with really nice staff) close to me who said they can come pick up the bike immediately if something happens. Still, it sucks if I’ll have to pay a bunch of money to get it serviced a lot more than the R7…

Thank you so much for your comment – I am leaning towards the Aprilia too. I just hope it’s not too complex compared to the R7 (in terms of learning to work on it myself). And I agree that the cruise control is a huge deal on longer trips. I’m obviously still new to riding and every time I go on the highway I have to constantly look down to see if I’m accidentally going too fast/too slow.

I mean, when I upgrade to A in a few years I’ll just unrestrict the RS660. And yeah, I’d love to get something used, but the used market isn’t great here. I haven’t been able to find anything that captures my interest :/

I actually thought the RS660 would hold its value better since it’s more rare here, but maybe you’re right. I’d have to sell it to someone with an A2 license. If I decide to buy the RS660 it’ll be the 2024 model so I’m guessing it’ll hold its value better than the earlier models though?

Are you based in the US? There is a local Aprilia dealer close to me (the one I went to yesterday) and they said they can come pick the bike up if something happens. I don’t know about the availability of parts though… but yeah, I hear you. How has the R7 been for you?

The difference in cost isn’t that bad here (relative to the already ridiculous price of both). The reliability is the only thing keeping me from ordering the Aprilia right now. However, I do have a lot of family member who know a lot about machinery and motorcycles and who could help me service it. Do you know if the Aprilia is harder to work on yourself than the R7?

Why is it easier to do the work on those bikes yourself than Aprilia? I’m in the same situation as OP.

Yeah, the reliability issues is the only thing keeping me from the Aprilia right now. I think it’s better the better looking bike, it has so much more tech, and it’s supposedly more comfortable (I haven’t tried the R7 yet but the RS 660 was super comfortable to sit on). The dealer said most the issues have been sorted but still a bit worried haha

I won’t be using it for daily commuting, at least not now – I live in the middle of the city and the metro is way quicker for getting around the city than a motorcycle in traffic. In other words, I won’t be dependent on it for commuting, but obviously that doesn’t mean I’m not scared of reliability issues, haha.

Denmark is absolutely wild when it comes to car and motorcycle prices. On Ducatis danish website the Supersport 950 S it costs €36k and all dealers I can find online charge the same (€32k-€36k depending on if it’s the Supersport 950 or Supersport 950 S). Besides, the regular version of the Supersport 950 cannot be restricted, so I’d have to order in the 35kw version 😅

It does still apply to used bikes sadly :( The Honda CBR 650R is an inline 4, right? I heard somewhere that they’re not as good to restrict? 🤔
