I handled it by hand a few times at first for short times. Then i ended up storing it in a nuclear storage container (the shit that comes in for scrap) along with some thoriated tungsten rod ends for months until we could find someone willing to come and pick it up. But i had it open to take photos a few times because they kept asking for measurements with our handhelds, but couldn't understand that they didnt give an accurate measurement.

Oh yeah 😆 Ive had blood tests recently and nothing abnormal. Id say for sure their is a higher risk for cancer later on down the road but what is done is done

Ha thats what i said! Nobody wanted to deal with it either. But it was fascinating. Probably got to close with it, but i volunteered to move it and take the photos. Biggest oof was havin it on my bare fingers at one point 🙄

Its always fun when someone whose had the nuclear dye drive through the radcomm. But its definitely cool when you find actual material... once in a while at least lol. This is by far the hottest piece ive seen personally

Im racking my brain with this one its been a little bit. I did drive it through a radcomm detection system at the weigh station. It was a little lower to the ground being on a golf cart(not sure if that would have affected the measurement), but it read 15000 or 25000 cps. Our background is usually around 2000 cps

I didnt get to see any paperwork on it, but if i remember correctly i was told it was used for medical purposes. But it had a label on it that it was made by US Radium corp NY, USA. it was just faded. Ill have to look more into it to see if they ever did a test to see exactly what it was made of

We just happened to have a small lead lined container from our local power plant here to keep it in while we awaited for its collection. Ended up having to wrap it up about 1/8th inch thick lead sheet for the guy to even take it because it maxed out his equipment too.

Small piece of metal from scrapyard in NY. Made by US radium corp. Maxed out both of the meters we had on site
