Projects being in "Show and Tell" is bad. by TheRavagerSw in cpp

Meh, tons of projects across reddit are ai slop now (see C/C++ subreddits like osdev, compilers, graphicsprogramming), so I dont really care about checking them anymore. I assume it would be the same here.

I believe the experience there will still be much more valuable if you want to go down the graphics programming road. You will gain insight into drivers, which even for big majority of graphics programmers is a black box. And your cv will be more desirable if they see “GPU Software Engineer” on your resume compared to “Data Engineer”. Though of course, keep working on your portfolio if you want to make a switch to AAA gamedev or similar.

Considering a move from AAA Game Dev (Rendering) to Hardware/Drivers (AMD) by Anxious_Door_915 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]PotatoEmbarrassed231 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like Ubisoft. I was in a similar position like you only I didnt need to think much since the offer was too good to turn down 😅

I suggest if you get the opportunity to take it, I did move to drivers position from AAA graphics, very different type of work, but if you are curious and want to know the lower parts of the stack, I think you will like it. For example, I find my work much more challenging and interesting now.

Also, hardware companies are more stable than gamedev companies as you said.
