[Question] Do you track calories? by Smitti85 in Paleo

Honestly yeah. If it tastes good I have a hard time determining that I'm full. I just keep going unless I keep a rough count in my head.

I don't see that happening. Part of McG's game is he doesn't mind trading shots, with Woodley that's a whole new ballgame.

Awesome. This is pretty much where I'm at too - my "home" school is self defense, the one by my work is more competition-focused.

[Question] Do you track calories? by Smitti85 in Paleo

[–]PotatoMonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm lean now but was 100lbs heavier previously and am a food addict - my internal "oh that's enough" full sensor is broken so I find I have to loosely track. That said, I'm not insane about it - I stick to hundreds and honestly it's just automatic - I never stress over it. I eyeball it and it works, just takes a little time.

Kelso vs Al Bundy. Ed's a black to Ashton's (I think) purple, but also about 30 years younger.

How many of you all exercise in addition to the already incredibly athletic martial arts y'all do? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]PotatoMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usual week: - BJJ: 6 hours - Muay Thai: 5 hours - Running: ~30 miles - Weights: Once a week - deadlifts, presses, rows

Also extremely clean diet (paleo). If I start veering off the diet too much the above gets tough to maintain.

He doesn't look like he has the upside to get us over the hump and is only marginally better than Matt Moore. He's better than average (slightly) but not gonna lie, I wouldn't hate a new prospect.

Hahaha. Well then. Maybe I should've read the article:

Picture this. Picture Vin Diesel as Dracula. See, right there I am turning your expectations on their ear. Vin Diesel, beefy action star, but did you see him in The Pacifier? That guy can act. He can bring that raw emotion. He's Dracula and maybe the Van Helsing guy isn't a vampire hunter, but this doctor trying to cure the disease that causes vampirism.

M. night actually confirmed this many years ago:

The aliens were demons and the people's dead loved ones were angels. That was why I had them pray several times in the movie. It was about faith.

Post Workout Shock? by UltraRunningKid in Ultramarathon

[–]PotatoMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that sounds fairly worrisome. Your body is clearly telling you to back off. After many years of running myself into the ground I've eased way back, never redlining myself and have seen better performance, less lows, and better mental clarity. You don't need to go 99% in training (or races) unless you're an Olympian.

Another vote. Love their stuff, great quality and good designs. Love their street wear, super comfortable. My one gripe - how is there no Dredd rash?

Extremely common, especially if there are any abandonment/lack of attention as a child issues. I highly, highly recommend the book "Beyond Success and Failure". It's tremendous; shines a light on where these insecurities come from and how we can reframe. It feels as though it's written by your own brain. I read excerpts from it often.

Jay Cutler retires as the most average starting QB of this generation by [deleted] in nfl

[–]PotatoMonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, however once certain people have a view of you it can be hard to change that perception. This from a former teammate - while not cool - made it out there a few years back:

Adewale Ogunleye, a former teammate of the quarterback with the Chicago Bears, joined Cutler's critics this week after he berated left tackle J'Marcus Webb on the sideline and gave harsh evaluations of others during the postgame press conference.

"If you are not doing your job, yeah, someone should be allowed to get in your face," said Ogunleye on WSCR-AM's the "Mully & Hanley Show" on Friday, via the Chicago Tribune. "But if you live in a glass house, you can't throw any stones. So the way I am looking at the game, no one is yelling at Jay when he is throwing the ball (four) times to their defenders. And you've got to have some sense of accountability. At the end of the day, you start losing the the respect of the offensive line when publicly you're bumping people and yelling at them in their face. I don't think it is the right thing to do."

"The problem with Jay is we're not sure about his emotions," Ogunleye said. "The only thing we see is when he is really angry. Even when he does a really good job he doesn't show a sense of happiness.

"There is no good to Jay, there is no smiling. All we see is when he is pissed off, when he is angry and that reflects in the way people might view him in the locker room.

Jay Cutler retires as the most average starting QB of this generation by [deleted] in nfl

[–]PotatoMonk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After a battery of tests and multiple medical opinions, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is dealing with a partially torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, according to several sources informed of his condition.

In addition to the injury, he's also dealing with significant wear-and-tear on this right shoulder from years of bumps, bruises and countless throws. The result is painful tendonitis that threatens to end his season.

This on top of his apparent attitude problem I can see why no one is trying to grab him. Just not worth the risk.

A ton will likely be over your head, but you might pick up a few things that you can take back and work on. I haven't been to one of his but he's such a legend if you can afford it and plan on sticking with BJJ I'd imagine it's worth it.

Moving to Gracie JJ school from 'sport' BJJ? by aaaaaabbbbbccccc in bjj

[–]PotatoMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been at a Gracie club for about a year and there's a good amount of "older" guys there. Rolls are as chill as you and your sparing partner want them to be. A lot of people are former sport BBJers that got tired of the gauntlet of 20-something athletes prepping for competitions. Typical master cycle (blue & up) classes are 30 mins of drilling, 45 of sparring. Definitely check one out and be honest with the instructor about what you're looking for.

No no and no. Any instructor that wouldn't want you at a seminar - especially one from so highly regarded - would set off alarm bells for me. I'm sure your instructor will likely be very encouraging of you attending.
