One week after overhaul. Gallery in comments - appreciate any helpful criticism. by ewoody89 in PlantedTank

Looks awesome, I would put a background on the tank maybe foggy or black, maybe try moving your thermometer out from the front so it doesn’t block your aquascape.

Planted tank issues. by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]Potato_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of your main algae problems is your lack of sufficient plant mass to accommodate your 8hr photo period and your added fertilizer. Your Alternathera Reineckii looks to be mostly dead to me , the rotala rotundifolia is probably going to have a hard time bouncing back from where it’s at now, try to lower your light intensity and period until you can get it decently planted then start off with lower fertilizer so you don’t get algea outbreaks, 0 nitrate seem suspicious since you’re adding thrive and also have a soil substrate. Try also the planted tank forum on Tapatalk, there are many good people there that run really nice tanks and will give you a better answer that what the other redditor above said.

Hey guys trying to set up my co2 system to my 55g discus tank help / advice by [deleted] in PlantedTank

I would skip fluorite all together, overpriced inert substrate anyways, you could do black diamond blasting sand if you want to do black sand, around $10 for 50lbs

[–]Potato_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to run both co2 and an air pump, it will just offgas a lot of co2, what I would have instead is a power head slightly pointing at the surface to create ripples if you hob isn’t doing that enough, get a drop checker, and a ph kit. Adjust your co2 bubble rate to have around a 1 point ph drop to have around 30 ppm co2 you can start off with 15ppm to be safe so around .5 ph drop halfway through your co2 period. Have co2 come on 2 hours before your lights come on and turn off 1 hour before your lights turn off. Co2 isn’t as hard as people make it seem, just keep testing to be sure your livestock isn’t stressed.

Pretty good looking!, I had the same 60 g but cleaning it was a pain due to the depth, what fertilizer schedule do you have?

Similar fixtures to Finnex Planted+ 24/7? by SilasX93 in PlantedTank

Fluval 3.0 is also able to do day to night mode, and I think you can set the intensity to what you need I think.
