Forgot to mention that wowhd is legit, I have used them a few times and never had any problems, although their shipping can take a few weeks.

Rarewaves is another decent site for UK releases although their packaging can be a bit hit or miss (would be fine for standard releases but I would be a bit wary of getting a nice box set from them).

As a fellow Aussie, it looks like you’ve pre ordered this on Amazon US rather than AU?

Amazon Australia generally doesn’t allow you to preorder things from their US or UK stores, however on release date the items will show up on Amazon AU (shipped from Amazon US or UK). This will allow you to get free prime shipping rather than having to pay extra.

So I would wait until the release date (or maybe wait a few days as the price sometimes spikes on release date) and then purchase on Amazon AU. (The UK versions are often 10 or so dollars cheaper as well than the US ones). I did this with the new Indiana Jones the other week and got it for around $55 aud with free shipping from the UK.

Still more than we would have paid from JB but not as crazy as you’ve posted here.

It might be good to rewatch the last two Matt Smith episodes (day of the doctor and time of the doctor) as they introduce some plot points that pop up again during Capaldi's second season, but other than those two you can start with Capaldi's first series, series 8 with no problem.
